Re-understanding François Truffaut

The fourth installment in the Antoine series. The first half is easy and fun, but it gets better as it goes to the back, and many delicate little details make people smile. Of course, there will be various retrospective stalks of the first three films. The one that impressed me the most, and the one that is most easily missed is the line "mais" said by the actor on TV when he imitated "Last Year at Marionba" je ne suis pas une apparition, je suis une femme" (I'm not an illusion, I'm a woman) is exactly what the dewy lover in the third "Stolen Kiss" said to Antoine, no wonder his face immediately stiffened while watching TV Haha. Therefore, although this film is complete when viewed independently, it is recommended that qualified viewers watch the first three films in order. I have to say that the relationship between Antoine and Christine is really good, "Tu es ma sœur , ma fille, ma mère" (you are my sister, daughter, mother) is not a wife, maybe because these roles are all in Antoine's life It is missing, and therefore, although the husband and wife cannot go to the end, they still create a beautiful relationship together. In my opinion, this is much better than the boring but boring marriage relationship. Truffaut's cute little quirks even rationalize the masquerading of a French white man and a Japanese lover, just as we'll always forgive the naive Antoine in the end. What I like about this author is his narcissism and never forgetting candid self-criticism. When I watched the first three films, I felt that although he did not understand women, it was fortunate that he always admitted his confusion without pretending to understand. In this part, he portrays Christine as a female image who is always more mature and restrained than Antoine, which is probably also a kind of self-reflection growth. And when he used Christine's mouth to express his self-criticism of his own works, it brought me not only a knowing smile, but more touching.

Digression: I thought Godard, Tati, and Rohmer were the only ones who liked to play with color. I didn't expect that Truffaut would play so much in this film. It seems to be the commonality of French directors of that era?
