If it weren't for Gregory Peck's performance, Lewt in the story would be a complete villain: amoral and lawless, who not only played with Pearl's feelings several times, but also killed her fiancé on the eve of her wedding. However, like Pearl, we can't seem to really ignite our hatred for Lewt. On the contrary, we can't help but fall in love with his unbridled smile and his wild horse-like personality.
