It easily reminds me of "The True Story of A Fei"...

It turns out that a director's taste is not only projected in his film works, but also unconsciously transferred to the appreciation and evaluation of other people's works. This Romanian film, which was recommended by Wong Kar Wai as the Golden Bear Award, the highest honor at the Berlin International Film Festival, easily reminds me of "The True Story". Isn't the relationship between mother and son in the film a replica of Pan Dihua and Leslie Cheung? Both films focus on depicting the hostile relationship between mother and son, but "Possessive Love" focuses on the mother, while "A Fei" focuses on "the bird without feet".

I think the heroine's performance is the soul of the whole play, and she deserves the best actress award. I don't mean to question Wong Kar-wai's vision here at all. I just feel that this kind of social theme is commonplace in mainland China, and it seems to appear in a certain corner of the newspaper every day. Such a lack of freshness is far inferior to the "Three Weeks and Two Days in April" that reached the top in Cannes.

Hand-held camera style has long been played out, and the film, which has almost become a pop soap opera, has a super old-fashioned but powerful core: motherly love. Fortunately, the director showed it in a less deliberate way, and its subtlety and sensibility are enough to overshadow those social topics that are casually grabbed to attract attention: money, corruption, power, social injustice, the disparity between the rich and the poor, and so on.

Child's Pose quotes

  • Cornelia Keneres: What did I do wrong?

Barbu: Never mind now. I'm putting this on the table. You can say yes or no. You either let me call you when I feel like it, or it's nothing. And a suggestion. If it's hard, find a substitute. A dog, a lover, a hobby. People your age visit the Pyramids.

Cornelia Keneres: Other people my age have a normal relationship with their child. Parents find their fulfillment in their children. Everything they failed to accomplish, they achieve through their children.

    Barbu: So we're agreed.
