People stop killing people, Buddha stop killing Buddha

The first two episodes of this series are the best, and I think it can be made into two parts like Kill Bill.
The Americans at Chicken Thieves really did that and changed the first two episodes into a standalone movie called shogun assissan. This version is basically what audiences outside of Japan see, and this is what Bill and his daughter see in Kill Bill 2.

I remember the English subtitled version from District 4 that should have been watched in 2003 or 2004 for the first time. When I saw the scene where the Yagyu family sent someone to assassinate Bai Yidao, I found that there was no sound of the sword, only the ambient sound. I thought there was something wrong with the disc. What an avant-garde sound design was this in 1972. Only ambient sounds such as water and wind are retained, and other dynamic effects such as the collision of swords and slashing are muted. This design creates a contrast. Intentional. Some of the sonic processing in the Grandmasters is similar to this. On the contrary, in the American version, conservative Americans added their voices back, and the scene became very common.

The protagonist, Bai Yidao, is a public servant of the shogunate era, an executioner, who is specially made for senior samurai or lords. This person's martial arts should be the number one master in Japan at the time, at least from the back plot, and it is precisely because of his high martial arts that he became a special intermediary for the shogunate.

As for the style of the picture, it feels a lot like a spaghetti western, with close-ups, long-range views, walking, rivers and mountains, and one move to defeat the enemy. There are countless hidden enemies on the road, monks, nuns, and beautiful ninjas. It is no exaggeration at all when people stop killing people, and Buddhas stop killing Buddhas.

Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance quotes

  • Inspector Yagyu Bizen-no-Kami: Men, take Ogami Itto!

Ogami Itto: This is too odd! Inspector Bizen... What is the meaning of these uniformed men? Was it your intent to take me away from the beginning?

Inspector Yagyu Bizen-no-Kami: Naturally, in such an emergency as this!

Ogami Itto: If that were so, they would have come here openly. Besides, there shouldn't have been any reason to hide your uniforms.

    [Grabs a guard]

Ogami Itto: Furthermore, how do you explain the armor? If you were in such a rush to come here, why did you take the time to don this?

  • Ogami Itto: You would've been happier if you'd chosen to join your mother in her world.
