hapiness? happiness?

"My love for you has not been reduced by a single point, but my love has grown a little more." —— "Happiness"

After watching Varda's "Happiness" a few days ago, I was really depressed for a long time because of the feminism in my body. To put it simply, this movie looks more like a French version of white roses and red roses. The alternation of cinnabar moles, white moonlight, mosquito blood, and rice grains may really come in an instant.

The first half of the film is simple and plain, a very warm family of four, with children and a harmonious husband and wife, a car and a house, but it is simply the perfect life that many modern people pursue. Until the appearance of the beautiful post office lady Emily, the male protagonist seemed to have found his own cinnabar mole, and everything came naturally. I have to say that I can't hate Emily at all, and I can't blame the hero's self-righteousness and the heroine's cowardice, because everyone is too sad. The director did not criticize anyone from any point of view, but just told you the whole story gently. Such an incident happened in such a place, from the death of the heroine at the climax of the story to the end of the story, the hero and Emily formed a new one. The family goes on an outing, and all the plots are open. As for how the audience will feel after watching it, the director does not seem to want to guide too much.

A lot of times, honesty seems to be more cruel than deception. The male protagonist is between two women and is honest with each woman. I love her, but I also love you. I am happy and happy now. Well, it seems that there is nothing wrong with being happy, so at the end of the story, the expression of the male protagonist makes me feel in a trance that he is proudly telling me "I am a winner in life".

The film "Happiness" has confused me for a long time. I can't stand in line to criticize or agree with one of them as always, because every character makes me feel distressed. It is obvious that everyone keeps pursuing the love of "one person for one lifetime", but it seems that red roses and white roses are much more attractive to people, and some people follow their own instincts like the male protagonist Some people do this.

From the day when human emotion was born, it was doomed to not get rid of these things. Does the accumulation of happiness equal happiness? Does quantitative change inevitably lead to qualitative change? Who knows, life is so hard, I really don't have the strength to think about it anymore.

  • François Chevalier: Were you sad?

Émilie Savignard: Not that much. I don't like sadness.

  • Émilie Savignard: Now I'm here. I'm myself, I mean.

François Chevalier: I like that about you. And it's the same for me. I can't say I'm different since I met you. On the contrary, I'm even more myself.
