I never saved anything for the swim back

When I was in middle school, I watched a movie on Pearl TV. Seeing intermittently because of advertisements. I later forgot the name and content of the movie, but there is a scene in it that I always remember.

There are two brothers of similar ages. My younger brother is very talented and he thinks he is better than his elder brother in every aspect. They have liked to swim in the beach competition since they were young, to see who can swim farther. The elder brother was found to have a heart problem since he was born, and his younger brother has better physical fitness, so he has always won the game. The day before their brother left home, they played again. But this time my brother traveled farther.

Many years later, the brothers met again. The two recalled the past, and the younger brother didn't think he lost to the older brother. He just thinks he lost to himself. So in order to prove themselves, the two brothers came to the same beach again, and the two of them swam to the depths of the sea again.

When they got farther and farther from the shore, the younger brother said to his elder brother: We have swam too far, we can't see the shore anymore, (maybe we can't go back). Brother asked: Do you want to give up? The younger brother said no. So they continued to swim forward. Finally, the younger brother stopped again. He said we must swim back. My brother said it was too late and we must swim to the other side. The younger brother said, where is the other side, how far do you want to swim and drown us all? My brother said to him that you know how I did it (to win you)? I never saved anything for the swim back (I never saved anything for the swim back).

Today, I have the opportunity to see this scene again. Time passed, and when this familiar scene flashed before my eyes again, my eyes became a bit moist. I also only learned the name of this movie today: GATTACA.

Going back to the previous story: the younger brother fell silent after hearing what he said, and began to panic. Finally, the older brother swam back to the shore with his younger brother.

What moved me? I can't tell. An incomplete idea: How far a person can go is partly determined by his ability, but more importantly, his determination. This is not a screenwriter. Anyone who has run a marathon should have an experience. And this point of view Wang Anshi expounded in "You Bao Chan Shan Ji" hundreds of years ago. The excerpt is as follows. (When I was in high school, this article was required to be recited.)

"If the husband and the barbarian are near, there will be many people; if the danger is far, there will be few at the very end; and the world’s wonders and wonders often lie in the distance and the people. It’s rare, so those who don’t have aspirations can’t come. If there’s ambition, don’t follow it, but those who don’t have enough power can’t come. There is aspiration and strength, but don’t follow it. As for the darkness and confusion, there is nothing to tell. , Also can not be. However, the strength is enough to be ridiculous and not to be ridiculed for others, and regretful for oneself; if I do my ambition, but can not be there, there can be no regrets, which can be ridiculed? You get what you get!"

Life is like swimming in the ocean. Many times people want to leave a way out for themselves. But there is actually no retreat in life. It's like Leslie Cheung said in A Fei's biography that we can't change the past, even if it only takes a minute (note). Even if you go back, time can't go back. The choice you make at any fork in your life can only be made once in your life. The so-called retreat is just another way forward. When life is unsatisfactory, looking back on the past, many previous choices have become the white roses and red roses described by Zhang Ailing, or the "The Road Not Taken" that Robert Frost lamented. And GATTACA told me that maybe life should be broken and let go-maybe in this way can we go far enough.

Note: "You were with me one minute before three o'clock in the afternoon on April 16, 1960. I will remember this minute. This is a fact, and we cannot change it—because it has passed."

  • [Irene has discovered Vincent's secret]

Irene: I don't even know who you are.

Vincent: I'm the same person I was yesterday.

Irene: I can't hear any more of your lies Jerome...

Vincent: My name is Vincent, all right? Vincent Anton Freeman, and I'm a "faith birth" or a "de-gene-erate", whatever you want to call it; but I am NOT a murderer!

    Vincent: You're a "God-child"?

Vincent: [takes Irene's hand and places over his heart] But we do have one thing in common, only I don't have twenty or thirty years left in mine. Mine is already ten thousand beats overdue.

    Irene: It's not possible.

Vincent: You are the authority on what is not possible, aren't you Irene? They've got you looking for any flaw, that after a while that's all you see. For what it's worth, I'm here to tell you that it is possible. It is possible.

  • Vincent: I don't know how to thank you.

Jerome: No, no. I got the better end of the deal. I only lent you my body. You lent me your dream.
