Cameron Frye, you're my hero!

"I realized it was ridiculous. Being afraid. Worrying about everything. Wishing I was dead, that shit. I'm tired of it."

This may be a hilarious movie focused on the main character Ferris but have you ever taken a minute to look at Cameron? There is a whole other level to this movie that I missed when seeing this for the first time as a kid. Now that I 'm older I can finally see the inner turmoil and eventual self reckoning Cameron goes through. Everything from his realization in the Art museum, to the mental break down on the ride back home, all the way to his speech at the end where he finally confronts himself and makes a stand for something, he is growing. The fact that this is their last year sinks in, the fact that he has always been pushed around, always walked on eggshells around his parents, always did the “right thing”. If he doesn't stand for something, whether it is right or wrong, he will fall for anything.
"I am not going to sit on my ass as the events that affect me unfold to determine the course of my life. I'm going to take a stand. I'm going to defend it. Right or wrong, I'm going to defend it"
In a way I envy Cameron for having that breaking point and surpassing it, I feel as if I've missed it along with my years in high school. But I've still got plenty of youth left, I still have time to make a stand for something, to determine my own course through life. I hate to quote the movie again but,
"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. "
