A heroic epic

I watched "300 Spartan Warriors 2: Rise of an Empire", a heroic epic about courage, belief, tenacity and resistance, as always in dark black tone and oil painting style, with consistent action violence and war brutality. Apart from the blood spurting, the bloody scene made people uncomfortable. The so-called "turning civilization into powder" is probably the greatest price of war. What I am curious about is, where did the director find so many muscular men who are proficient in acting?
