Interview with the director

It was really late to see this film after five years. I feel that this film is still very good overall, with a low rating of 5.4. Using Google Glass for first-person shooting, pseudo-documentary format, choosing religious holy cities, enemies are demons, huge monsters, and escape from closed caves. These elements are still remarkable. The advancing form of the plot imitates the Kolov archives, but it is also innovative. But there are still some minor flaws, so I interviewed the executive director of the film to hear how he explained it.

Me: Hello director, I am glad you can accept the interview in your busy schedule.

Director: It’s okay, because I’m not busy at all

I:. . . I have some questions about the film that I want to confirm with you. First of all, many fans complained that the front was too long. It took half the time of the film to explain the background of the characters, and it took the second half to get to the main topic. Why?

Director: Anything else, no budget. It costs too much money if the devil comes out too early. We in Israel have a saying: If the funds are not enough, talk to come together.

Me: Excuse me, the male protagonist was normal when he was intimate. He started to straighten his eyes right after he was done, and stood at the window talking nonsense?

Director: The man will only think calmly in the "sage time", and I don't want to spend a lot of time telling the audience that the male protagonist felt the ominous signs. In short, he had an epiphany after he was finished. Set off the weird atmosphere in a dumbfounded manner.

Me: In Israel, if a foreign tourist fluctuates in his mood, will he be sent to a lunatic asylum immediately?

Director: Yes, that's right, I was detained. . .

Me: When escaping, how did the female lead know that the male lead was locked in this hospital?

Director: There is a mental hospital in the Old City of Jerusalem. The hotel I stayed in was right next to the hospital. I had no choice.

Me: How did the heroine quickly find the key to rescue the hero in a messy, dim and complicated environment?

Director: I told her in advance where the key is. .

Me: It feels like all the correct proposals in the film have been suppressed by stupid suggestions. . . If you are a female protagonist, would you bravely rush into the asylum without defense in order to save your boyfriend you have been dating for a day? Besides, her boyfriend was very unstable when he was locked in. Is it a burden to not shoot when he is rescued?

Director: 1) It's normal. This is a common problem in all horror films, and I am not the only one shooting like this. 2) The devil is also defenseless! 3) In the film, except for the heroine and his dad who can use English fluently, they are male 1, 2 and female 1, 2. Find someone who can communicate with each other steadily at the critical moment. In addition, you can see that the male lead after prison has recovered!

Me: I feel that the supporting actors in the film are very sloppy, and they are simply sending them to death. Such as Fat Brother, the son of a hotel owner, soldiers, etc.

Director: The supporting role is used to advance the plot, to explain the whole story, and you can leave the scene when you run out. I admit that the exit method is a bit hasty, it should be stronger

Me: The tall soldier is holding a continuous-fire semi-automatic rifle. After seeing the devil, why does it single-shot instead of strafing? In addition, when the horror demon is right in front of your eyes, the director, will you turn your head and talk to the people behind you, and finally be thrown down by the demon head-on?

Director: 1) This is called tentative shooting. First try one or two shots, and then you can't shoot. 2) The devil didn't move for a long time. Who knew he could suddenly come over, turning his head and speaking very real, I think there is nothing wrong with it.

Me: The hostess has never killed a demon, but in the dark, she sealed the hotel owner with a sword.

Director: If the boss doesn't die, he will soon be out of the cave. How can it be! At the entrance of the cave, the salary of the boss, father and son will be increased, and there must be a reason to force them to leave the field before that, so one was blindly killed and the other committed suicide.

Me: A huge monster, played twice in total, isn't it too few? Moreover, it is too far away from the protagonist to see clearly. And there is no direct relationship with everyone's escape. Didn't you see the giant monster in the panorama at the end?

Director: 1) The number of appearances depends on the budget, mainly because there is no money. 2) The distance is far because you can't see the whole picture when you are close, and there will be shots of the house being trampled when you are close, and the cost is too high. It's better to stay far. 3) In the end, the money ran out, so I didn't do it.

Me: Is your funding for a horror movie so tight?

Director: Well, only one manufacturer that sells glasses has invested money for us. . . .

Surprisingly not bad. Google Glass not only solves the important problem of "how do these people die until they are still filming", but also adds additional horror elements (face recognition in the dark, automatic video broadcasting of glasses broken, Facebook reading explaining the history) , It’s a pity that these ideas appear too few and most of them are useless in the right place.

It's very interesting. The screenwriter has done a lot of homework. In recent years, low-cost horror films are considered to be relatively high-quality. And it looks like I really want to buy Google Glass. Three and a half.
