Boy Scars Movie

I am not familiar with Michael Cuesta, but when I watched his "Long Island Highway Boy LIE", I left an inexplicable gloom in my heart, which was very sad. Michael Cuesta's selection of materials is very marginal, the style is very American, light and easy to read, should be on the same path as Gus Van Sant.
On this path, the most impressive are Gregg Araki's "Mysterious Skin", Sofia Coppola's "The Virgin Suicides"... In front of these movies, "Harry Potter" seems ridiculous.
Michael Cuesta handled his scarred childhood with very gentle brushstrokes, as if he was afraid of accidentally causing second-degree injury to his childhood. The young protagonist in the movie is always so sensitive and worried, and the complex psychological crisis is not something that the materialistic Western white-collar society can easily solve and be redeemed.
Also, Michael Cuesta knows how to use appropriate music.

It turns out that this is the trouble of growth.

I thought it was boring, but I still felt unsatisfied when I saw it. The little actors are great! JR's monologue was a bit green but full of contagion, and suddenly felt that his film wouldn't be too ugly (well, I'm an idealistic fan).

  • Gus Maitland: You're going to like Dr. Chuang. This is only my second session. She's really good.

Malee Chuang: I'm not a patient, I'm her daughter.

Gus Maitland: Oh yeah. Ah, I see the resemblance.

Malee Chuang: Are you trying to make me sick?
