Homosexual self PK heterosexual ethics: the different fate of 1/0 characters under heterosexual ethics
-watching the movie "Italian Mambo"

This is a gay comedy. The whole film is bright and full of colors. The expressions, dialogues, and gestures of the characters (parents) are exaggerated and comics to the greatest extent, but not artificial. The background music is a well-known piece of Italian music.

The story happened in an immigrant Italian family in Canada. Gay movies mostly involve self-identification, feelings between gays, and conflicts with family and marriage. Heterosexuals do not have so many worries on these issues, they have too many formulas to apply and refer to. We have to cross the river by feeling the stones, taking one step at a time.

The protagonist Angelo and his childhood friend Nino run into an affair and live together. Two people who are together in an abnormal way are bound to be subjected to various pressures from the outside world. Under pressure, you can either endure more intimacy side by side, or collapse from the inside. In the end Nino chose marriage, and Angelo found BF again.

Why does it crash?

Judging from the plot described in the film, the Italians are regarded as a traditional nation. They value family life. The children grew up at home, got married, and lived with their parents (Angelo moved out of the house, which is simply an act of rebellion). Even the ending of the film is that Nino returns to the family in the traditional sense. At the same time, Angelo and his BF are also accepted by the family (comedy is that good, omnipotent).

They cultivate vegetables, care for, and harvest in the park, like a group of farmers living in the city, self-sufficient, and a world by themselves. They hide deep feelings other than happiness. The mantra for children is: you can't do this, you can't do that.

Work is to get social security and pension. As long as you are diligent and conscientious, you don’t need interest and hobbies.

They have strong self-esteem and don't give up in front of others. Pay attention to etiquette. Religious Belief. For 30 years, Angelo's mother went to church on time to confess at 2:45 every Saturday afternoon. Even the priest is a little tired.

For them, "homosexuality" is similar to "flying saucer", knowing that there is such a thing, they do not intend to see it in this life. Homosexuality is quite immoral in their eyes.

In the school, Angelo was pranked by his classmates and put a "Fag" logo on him. Fag is also a word used to describe homosexuality, but it carries a considerable degree of slander. It can be seen that the word "comrade" was used to curse people at that time.

This is the environment in which Angelo and Nino live. Such an environment is more suitable for a compliant life.

Everything was fine. Nino moved into Angelo's apartment to live a two-person world. When Angelo came out to his family, the conflict came to the door.

Angelo's parents were sad, blamed themselves, and then forced him to see a psychiatrist for brainwashing. Such a straightforward threat is like a child's fist is not worthy, except that it provokes more resistance.

Nino's mother is old like a fox. A woman whose husband has died for eighteen years, without the strength to rely on, can only rely on wisdom. She lightly said to Nino: If you like to play some new tricks. Why should I stop you.

Then, remind him with two sentences:
1. If you want to be the subject of people making fun of, stay here (Angelo's apartment).
2. If you feel that you don't have a wife and children to take care of you, you can live well. Then why should I worry about you.
These two sentences describe both the present and the future situation. Comrades are also ordinary people, love their parents, want to live with them, and long to have their own flesh and blood, and be able to hold their children's hands. Nino could not be a father, and his mother could not hold him and Angelo.
On the one hand, Angelo moved out of the house because he couldn't bear the boring family life. Another reason is that I don't want to accept marriage.

Another heavy pressure comes from colleague Mark.
Mark said that the person who lives with you is rumored to be G. You live with him, and I am partnering with you. In this way, people will discuss you and me. I have been partnering with you for so long, and I don't want to change to a new partner.

what to do? If he comes out or refuses to move out from Angelo, Mark will definitely choose to change to a new partner. Who is willing to go against the public opinion to partner with Nino? In the working environment of the police department, which most needs the cooperation between people, Nino will be left out and isolated, and become a lonely game in the collective.

Angelo works in a foreign trade company and faces telephone customers. The working environment is one computer and one phone per person. The left and right colleagues are two meters away. There is no need for the cooperation and support of others. He hates this job, and his ideal is to be a TV dramatist. The profession of writer is more relaxed and free, and the connection with people is looser, and you can do whatever you want.

Angelo and Nino were inseparable friends when they were children. But after entering high school, Nino was aware of his sexual orientation and felt ashamed, so he avoided Angelo in school, only came to play with him on weekends, and finally broke off his friendship completely. More than ten years later, when we meet Angelo again, Nino's nature is awakened. But he was only satisfied with living with Angelo. Love, can't do it, can't say it. Feeling that "no one can understand the two of them, except themselves". Although Nino's behavior is G, he is anxious about it in his heart. Psychologically, he was not ready to be a G. He is deeply influenced by traditional Italian life, so the inner shame has always existed. He vacillates between traditional life and G, facing the choice between a happy life or a respected life.

After Angelo and Nino cohabited, they were also in a state of "I can't calm down every day. I will lose myself for a long time." Holding the thought of "I want to know the real me. I don't want to die without knowing who I am", and walked out of the world of two people with Nino. No longer wasting time with the girls, don't want to live falsely. Go to the gay village, G bar, call the G hotline, and want to be a G in the sun from the inside out. He has the "unconventional and unconventional" character of his aunt Yolanda (Yolanda is the soul of the film, always wants to inject something special into your life. He likes to teach people to dance the "mambo").

The collapse was due to the inconsistency between the two. Angelo has the conditions, freedom and psychological factors to be a G. He was bullied during high school, and the university only lasted three months, and the school didn't give him anything. Since high school, I have no close friends, and I spend my spare time with TV. His ideal job is to be a writer, and this humiliates his family and thinks that he is not doing his job properly. He doesn't want to get married and hates the dull family life. Move out from home desperately. He has nothing to lose. The traditional life did not give him any benefits at all, but restricted him. In other words, when Angelo came out, he lost his chains and gained the entire world.

Nino is not like that. Traditional life has given him many benefits. He was an excellent student in high school and won many awards. Handsome, is the object of marriage in a girl's heart. He is a respected policeman and his favorite profession. He left the family briefly because he lived with Angelo, and then moved home again to live with his mother. He never wanted to create a new world in the past. No external factors forced him to do this, even his love with Angelo.

Therefore, Angelo's coming out should be said to be unwise, and the price is to destroy the feelings between them.

Just as the bucket's water storage height depends on the shortest piece of wood. How long the two can stay together depends on the weakest person among them. As far as Nino is concerned, his mentality is the weakest-he can only be a man during the day and a G at night. So even if there is no coming out, one day there will be "marriage" or other issues that will force him to come to his door, threatening his foundation in traditional life. Nino was still the first to be knocked down.

This pair of gay lovers, who have an obvious 1/0 role, also played different lives and destinies in different roles. (Angelo) stands for "0", stands for "gay self", stands for "rebellion and freedom"; Nino stands for "1", stands for "false self raped by heterosexual ethics", and also stands for "reformed and subservient" .

Although Nino voluntarily chooses marriage, it does not mean that he is no longer G. He saw Angelo for the last time before getting married, and Angelo forced him to ask: Have you ever loved me? He cannot say "Yes" because it admits that his marriage is a deception; he cannot say "No" because it is not true. He avoided again: "We had a very happy time."

Then, he held Angelo's face: "Tell me, you are fine." He wanted to leave without burden. Angelo asked him anxiously: "Are you okay?" This question made him unable to answer, even the coping type "OK" could not be said. Because he has no confidence in the future married life.

During the wedding, Nino looked at the bride who walked up, his face changed from joyful to solemn, as if seeing misfortune walk up.

Echoing this shot, it is probably the bride's triumphant declaration and expression after she thought she had "broke straight" Nick.

The director did not describe the final outcome of Nick's marriage. When scanning Nino in the last scene, he faintly saw him and another male friend walking through the forest.

Maybe this is a hint? Or does it mean the unfortunate opening of this marriage?

Will Nick "break free" from his marriage? Or is it to be imprisoned by his wife in the cage of marriage for a lifetime without breathing?

Thinking of this, one cannot help but feel sympathy for Nick.

  • Angelo Barberini: Dear Nino, this is the only way I can think of that I might be able to reach you. So I ask you: Please read this through before closing your mind, before shutting me out forever. Keeping my love for you a secret from the world seemed like a betrayal of that love. Now I know that I don't need anyone else to know about us. We are in love and even if a closet must protect our love it will never contain. I would do anything to make things right again. There is no one if there isn't you, Nino. When you left, everything stopped making sense. I love you, Nino, and I can't bear to be without you. Your Angelo.
