Smith is the future

Let me talk about The Matrix first. Matrix is a virtual space constructed by artificial intelligence. However, this virtual space cannot effectively simulate human society. In order to perfect the virtual space, it needs to absorb human creativity (ie, machine learning). Matrix created The One (Savior), using a rational mechanized program Architect to manage the linear world, using another program Oracle to guide The One and humans to attack Matrix. On the other hand, it also participates in program testing to make the program better learn and help Matrix evolution. In the third Revolutions, Neo and Matrix jointly eliminated the malicious copy of Smith, and completed the final evolution of Matrix. I can't help but ask a question: can Smith be eliminated?

The attributes of Smith can be analyzed: Self-Replication, Out of Evolution.
In the hypercirculatory system, a substance continuously proliferates and evolution requires two attributes: 1) self-replication; 2) if it can produce a higher cycle step, this step can help the original step to replicate. Thus, it can be transformed from a low-level copying process to a higher-level evolution, and a huge orderly system is produced, which is a positive feedback. Here we borrowed ideas from the theory of evolution. Interestingly, the terminal of evolution has fallen out of the scope of natural selection, that is to say, there is no need for a more orderly system. Therefore, it can continuously replicate and consume energy, completely out of control. Like malignant hyperplastic tumors, or Smith, or humans.

How similar is Smith and the current human position in evolution: Self-Replication, Out of Evolution.
Everyone knows about neutral mutations. Most mutations are malignant. They can be eliminated naturally, leaving only favorable and neutral mutations. The species here maintains a balanced relationship with nature. Species are controlled by the environment, and a large number of mutant individuals are forcibly deleted, and they have not broken away from the evolutionary system.
However, when a species can change from awe to knowledge of nature, and from recognizing it to transform nature (a slogan we have always been proud of), selection pressure begins to have no effect on this species. We finally reached the end of evolution and began to reverse any selection pressure directed at us. Most of the malignant mutations, due to the improvement of the disease treatment system and living conditions, happily become neutral mutations and continue to accumulate in future generations. A notable example is that with the popularization of caesarean section, women who were previously unsuitable for childbirth have successfully given birth to offspring. As a result, hereditary traits have also spread downward. Nowadays, women's pelvis is becoming less and more unsuitable for childbearing.
Just like Smith breaks away from Matrix's control of Agent (computer human), he doesn't need to evolve, just copy. In the movie, Smith is classified as a computer virus, and we can regard it as a simple evolutionary terminal free from selective pressure. He began to wreak havoc.

In the movie, Smith is eliminated by Neo and Matrix. Matrix has reached the final evolution. Humans and computers live in peace (this setting does not actually conform to Smith's attributes, and Matrix can no longer exert any control over Smith). Something that has a beginning has an end, sounds like advice to Smith, more like advice to Matrix or humans. As a computer virus, Smith’s selective pressure on Matrix is eliminated, and Matrix completes its final evolution.
Then what?
Matrix loses choice pressure, stays in the stage of self-replication, and eventually turns itself into a virus?
What about humans?
Pass the malignant mutations continuously downwards, continuously exhaust resources, and strive to carry out Self-Control through scientific development like slogans?

Something that has a begining has an end. Is it time to call for the arrival of nihilism?

The Matrix Revolutions quotes

  • Trinity: Six hours ago, I was ready to give my life for you. Do you know what has changed in the last six hours?

    Neo: No.

    Trinity: Nothing.

  • Neo: It's been an honor, sir.

Morpheus: No. The honor is still mine.
