"Blade Runner" is one of the most classic science fiction films in history. This cyberpunk movie, filmed in 1982, tells the story of the "Blade Runner" Dyke of the police department chasing and killing defected clones (robots) in the distant future, that is, in Los Angeles in 2019.
Today in 2017, it is only a year away from the time the story happened, but unfortunately, our technology is far from reaching the level depicted in movies: we have neither made robots that can speak, think, or even have emotions, nor I can go to outer space to fight and colonize, and I don't even have a car that can fly in the sky.
The only black technology we have realized is the video call that did not exist 35 years ago.
Such a gap is enough to show how forward-looking this movie filmed 35 years ago is, even if it is not outdated today, it still feels full of future.
"Blade Runner 1" story background
In Los Angeles in 2019, Terry Corporation created clones with the same wisdom and emotions as humans and sent them to outer space for colonization missions.
Replicas are flesh and blood, and the only way to distinguish them from humans is by reaction test : through a series of questions and answers, observe the emotional response of the subject to determine whether he is a replica.
Unable to withstand the enslavement of human beings, the early model (Nexus-6 type) that served in outer space awakened and launched a mutiny. Six of the clones escaped back to Earth. And those responsible for arresting them and making them "retire" are the special agents known as "Blade Runners" under the police system.
"Blade Runner 1" plot (director's final cut version)
Disclaimer: I watched the final edited version of the director, which is very different from the first version played in the theater.
The scene at the beginning of the film is a test of the reaction of Blade Runner to Lyon, a Type 6 robot that has fled to the earth. It can be seen that Lyon is very smart, shaking cleverly and uncooperatively in the Q&A of the test, and finally shot and killed the Blade Runner who interrogated him.
The retired Blade Runner Dyke (played by Harrison Ford, the actor of the Star Wars "Han Solo") re-emerged under the duress of his boss Brian and was responsible for capturing the four clones at large.
Here, his partner Gaff put an origami metaphorical of Dyke's identity on the table. This is the first time Origami has appeared.
In order to find clues, Dyke visited Terry Company. There, he met Rachel, Terry's secretary, a very beautiful and unaware copy of his identity.
He told Rachel that replicators are just machines.
Rachel sees his disdain for clones and asks if he "has accidentally executed humans."
Their speeches were interrupted by the intrusion of "Father of the Clone" Dr. Terry. Terry said he wanted to observe the negative experimental results and asked Dyke to test the "real human" Rachel.
Dyke uses the machine to observe whether Rachel’s pupils are dilated emotionally. [Sequel Easter Egg 1: Rachel’s pupils are green, but in the sequel "Blade Runner 2049", the fake Rachel’s pupils are blue, which is seen by Dyke at a glance. 】
Dyke asked Rachel, what do you do if you have a wasp on your arm?
Rachel replied, "I will kill it."
[Sequel Easter Egg 2: Blade Runner K, played by Commander Gao, traces the clues and finds Wallace who took over the bankrupt Terry Company. He heard this conversation from some of the remaining fragments. They judged from the conversation that Rachel had already liked Dyke, so they tried to irritate him. 】
After the test, Dyke discovered that Rachel was a clone. But she didn't know that she was a copy, because an ordinary copy only needed 20 or 30 questions to reveal herself, and she answered more than 100 questions.
Terry frankly, Rachel is a new type of test subject: Terry implanted human memories for her, especially childhood memories, so that she mistakenly thought that she was a human, so that she could observe her reaction.
After seeing Terry, Dyke went to the home of the fugitive clone Lyon and found some clues : a few photos, and the artificial snake scales in the bathroom.
[Here, his partner Gaff placed an origami metaphorical of Dyke's identity on the table for the second time. 】
Dyke came home and bumped into Rachel who came to look for him.
Rachel insists that she is a human being, but Dyke tells her "childhood memory", confirming that her memory is forged and she is just a copy.
Seeing Rachel’s crying expression, Dyke panicked and said helplessly, "You are not a copycat, can you go home?"
Rachel's tearful appearance made Dyke's view of copying people begin to change.
After Rachel left, Dyke took a nap at home and dreamed of a horse. This horse is the origami horse that his partner put down. Dyke, who woke up, began to doubt his identity.
He once again looked at the photo of the cloned Lyon, and used voice-activated black technology to infinitely magnify the part of the photo. [Sequel Easter Egg 3: Blade Runner K played by Commander Gao also uses voice control technology to view evidence]
In the enlarged image of the photo, he saw Leon’s associate, Zola, a female copycat with a tattoo on her left cheek.
Through the scales found at Lyon's house, he found the bar where Zola worked. After fighting and chasing, he shot Zola to death.
His boss, Brian, came out again and informed him that Rachel was missing, and asked him to solve Rachel and the remaining 3 escaped clones.
Afterwards, Lyon, who witnessed Zola's death throughout the process, attacked Dyke and beat him helplessly.
Fortunately, Rachel, who was observing secretly, shot Lyon to death in time, and Dyke was rescued.
Rachel and Dyke returned home. Rachel asked if Dyke had been tested. Dyke did not answer.
The two admiring each other finally rolled the sheets.
On the other side, the fugitive female clone Peris found Sebastian, an engineer who worked for Terry, stayed in his house, and recruited Roy, the leader of the fugitive clone.
Roy is tall and handsome, both civil and military. The only drawback is that he, like all Type 6 robots, has a life span of only 4 years. It turned out that the purpose of Type 6 robots returning to Earth was to find Terry to help them extend their lives.
Knowing that Sebastian and Terry are chess friends, Roy uses tricks to crack Terry's chess game and invites Terry to summon him . From dressing up to the layout of the room, Terry looked like the pope, symbolizing his identity as the father of human reproduction.
Roy is straight to the point, demanding an extension of his life.
Terry denied all the possibilities Roy had put forward, telling him that extending his life was only theoretically possible.
An angry Roy squeezed his father's head with his bare hands. [Sequel Easter Egg 4: Teri Company has launched a Type 8 robot with the same lifespan as humans. We will go into details later. 】
Dyke found Sebastian's home and had a fight with Peris. Peris, who had the upper hand, entered a mad state due to the aging of the fuselage, and Dyke shot and killed her.
The final battle was between Dyke and Roy. The mighty Roy is far better than Dyke, but he is not in a hurry to kill Dyke.
Holding the white pigeon in his hand, he single-handedly brought up Dekra, who was about to fall to his death from a tall building.
Roy said a classic passage:
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost...in time. Like tears...in the rain. "I saw you people are absolutely unbelievable scene. battleship. C rays across the raging fire ignited the shoulder of the constellation Orion in the dark universe of the Tannhauser gate. the some time, will fade away in the torrent of time, such as The same tears were submerged in the rain."
With his aging fuselage, he bowed his head and died in the heavy rain.
The white dove flew away and became an external symbol of his death.
Facing these clones who had been enslaved by humans and sent to battle in the harsh outer space, and then awakened and resisted the desire to continue their lives, Dyke was greatly shocked.
When he got home, he carefully opened Rachel's clothes, found that she was still there, and kissed her happily.
Holding the pistol given by Gaff, he took Rachel and fled. [Egg: Gaff personally confirmed that it was he who kindly let Dyke and Rachel go. 】
When leaving the door of the house, Rachel stepped on an origami horse. No doubt this was also left by Gaff. [Sequel Easter Egg 5: Blade Runner K, played by Commander Gao, visited the elderly Gaff and asked him about Dyke’s whereabouts]
Looking at this origami horse, Dyke is even more sure that he is a copy of the person, because only the implanted dreams will be known to others.
He took Rachel more firmly to leave, as a pair of escaped mandarin ducks.
"Blade Runner" outside
In the 30 years from 2019 to the sequel 2049, many stories have happened. There are three extra-special short films to fill the gap in the middle:
"2022 Dark Catastrophe"-Animation
"2036 The Age of Replicators"-Real People
"2048 Nowhere to Run"

Simple plot introduction:
Type 6 replicators with a lifespan of only 4 years have retired. Teri Company introduced Type 8 replicators, which have the same life span as humans.
The right eye of the Type 8 clone has an identification number, so there is no need to use the reaction test to identify it.
Type 8 replicas were sent to fight in outer space, but the soldiers on both sides were replicas, they were just human toy soldiers.
After escaping from outer space, they decided to revolt and pursue the right to life. Among them is the protagonist of Fanwai 3, Sapper who also appeared at the beginning of the sequel "Blade Runner 2049".
In 2022, they used nuclear bombs and tank trucks to blow up all information storage electronic equipment, causing a blackout. The registration records of all replicators were destroyed. Humans can no longer recognize the clones unless they look at their right eye.
This catastrophe gave birth to a copying ban, and Teri's company went bankrupt.
In the mid-2020s, the Earth's ecosystem collapsed, and Wallace, a company that specializes in synthetic food, rose. Ten years later, Wallace acquired the remaining Terry Company and restarted the replicator. The new clones absolutely obey the orders of mankind.
In 2048, Sapper, the Type 8 replicator, was a peasant who was bullied by profiteers and swallowed his voice. But seeing that his familiar human mother and daughter were bullied by bad guys, he was furious and shot and killed three bad guys, thus revealing his identity. The mother and daughter who were saved by him not only didn't appreciate him, but showed a look of fear. The "sense of justice" Chaoyang crowd immediately reported him, which led to the sequel to the original story, where he met the Blade Runner K played by Commander Gao.
Timeless classic
"Blade Runner" is a landmark science fiction film.
Dyke and Rachel completed the transformation of self-perception from human to copy.
As spectators, we have formed a close alliance with them from the very beginning, and we are nervous about their fate. The director convinced us that copying people also have human rights and the ability to love others. There may not be a real boundary between machines and people.
At the same time, this is also a stylized film. The director's application of the lens language fully demonstrates the cyberpunk temperament, and also highlights the copying person's imagery of human torture and life demands. The sequel "Blade Runner 2049" continues and deepens the original style with wasteland style and contrast of light and shadow. It is very worth seeing.
