Love or career, which is heaven?

After reading other people's comments, I realized that "Cinema Paradiso", "The Pianist at Sea" and "The Beautiful Legend of Sicily" are a trilogy. From this point of view, I still like "The Beautiful Legend of Sicily" the most. What I can't understand is why all the comments are praising the old man's white lies, is it really much better to be famous than a life without love? Love or career, which one is heaven? What moved me the most in the whole film was when Duoduo's mother and son had a long talk later, Duoduo's mother is an image of strength, wisdom and bravery.

I really don't know what's so good about this movie.

Cinema Paradiso quotes

  • Salvatore: They tell me you never go out and you never talk to anybody. Why?

Alfredo: You know how it is. Sooner or later a time comes when it's all the same whether you talk or not. So you might as well shut up.

  • Salvatore: At a party, a lieutenant pinches this girl's ass. She turns around. It's the colonel's daughter. Terrified, the lieutenant says, "If your heart is as hard as what I just felt, I'm a dead man."
