Chainsaw Fright

I don’t like horror films like this, mainly because the director’s intention to stimulate the audience through visuals is so obvious that he always ignores the impact on people’s psychological level. The same is true for these two films, abandoned buildings, dirty rooms, bloodstains everywhere, distorted expressions, all kinds of perverted killing tools, the imagination of the screenwriter and the director's grasp of the atmosphere are admirable, and the suspense is reserved. Also played a surprisingly winning effect. Of course, the director's ambition does not stop there, he has given the killer unexpected motives for killing. In fact, this kind of perverted psychology is effectively imitating the elements of "The Seven Deadly Sins", but the film does not express obvious religious ideas, but the killer talks to himself and asks people to retain gratitude to God. Although all those who enter the pit have their own dark and degenerate side, this aspect of the elaboration seems to be lacking in depth, unlike the "Seven Deadly Sins" that is stripped away and structured completely. And for the second part, this theme has been extremely weakened. The old murderer can still justify himself under the guise of acting for the sky. The second-generation female murderer is already a clear revenge. And mortals have original sin, and no one except God has the right to decide who should go to hell, so the old murder theory is just wishful thinking and self-deception. Therefore, most of the horror of the film still lies in the bloody scenes and the tension of the atmosphere, and the psychological horror effect is far not as strong as the "Seven Deadly Sins". The plot I admire most is about the doctor in the first part. When he decided to saw off his feet, the kind of hysteria that was on the brink of despair after being double-destructed psychologically and physically, was truly thrilling.

Putting the story in a confined space was something I liked, but it wasn't expressive enough, the fear and despair were completely predictable, and there was a lack of shots that emphasized the spatial relationship between the two. The character relationships also seem a bit far-fetched. The leg-sawed paragraph is well-known for a long time, and it lacks shock when actually seen. The only notable thing is the appearance of the killer at the end, which is definitely a surprise.

I think the old man’s main interest is industrial design, it’s a pity that there is no place to use it...so...

Saw quotes

  • [last lines]

John: [voice over] Most people are so ungrateful to be alive, but not you, not any more...

    [begins to close door]

    John: GAME OVER!

    Adam: Don't! Don't!

    [screams, screen goes black]

    Adam: NO!

    [screams of anguish fade out]

  • Adam: I don't give a crap if you covered yourself in peanut butter and had a 15 hooker gang bang!
