Use opposing transitions to reinforce opposing emotions, and organize notes in transitions

In this video. Almost all transitions use the principle of opposition without exception, which fits perfectly with the theme "car crash". The transition of opposition refers to indoor to outdoor, light from bright to dark, upper class vs. lower class, power vs. crime, bustle vs. yellow, busy vs. ease, day vs. night... This movie uses an opposing special approach. Emphasizes racial opposition, class opposition, and human nature opposition.

I tried to collect the transition methods. The common rule is to design the visual and auditory commonality of the first and last lenses of the two scenes: similar colors, related sounds, lens dynamics, similar light and shadows, and related actions (open door and close door, connect Call) etc.

Collect notes on the transition method of "Crash":

a) Push the door out for the previous indoor shooting, and don't push the door out for the same scene in the next outdoor shooting

b) The sound of a door slammed in the previous one, but was awakened by a sleep in the next

c) The picture fades to white when the head is raised up in the previous night scene, and the daytime scene is directly taken in the next scene

d) The black car in the previous scene moved from left to right, and the black car of the same color and different model moved from left in the latter scene

e) The middle scene of the indoor back view of the previous scene, and the distant scene of the outdoor back scene of the latter scene

f) The close-up of the figure in the black clothes in the previous indoor night scene moves to the left, and the distant scene of the figure in the black clothes in the outdoor night scene moves to the left

g) The door is closed in the previous game, and the sound is included in the second half of the wooden door in the next game.

h) A panoramic view of warm red indoor lighting in the previous scene, a close-up of warm indoor lighting in the next scene

i) The white vehicle in the exterior scene of the previous night is reversing and the front right is close-up, and the black vehicle in the exterior scene of the following night is the close-up and the right front.

j) A close-up of the main character's yellow clothes in the first indoor yellow tone, and an empty mirror in the second outdoor yellow tone

k) The black close-up of the previous car and the sound of the next scene are drawn in advance, and the close-up sound of the black alarm clock in the next scene continues the previous scene

l) The door was pushed in angrily in the previous scene, and the door was pushed in angrily in the next scene, and the sound effect of opening the door was clicked in the editing.

m) One person makes a call indoors in the previous game, and one person answers the phone outdoors in the next game

n) In the previous scene, a car drove and blocked the picture, and in the next scene, a person walked past and blocked the picture and then came out.

"Crash" (2004) is a terrible film because very few American films try to explore racism. Although the intention is good, the film does not break away from a melancholy plot. This melancholy is rooted in the desperate lives of wealthy whites in the suburbs, ambitious African-American police officers, Persian businessmen, and angry street wanderers. Not only did these people not show any psychological or intellectual complexity, but it is unreasonable to explain racism simply with a film describing individual loneliness, because "Crash" did not point out the powerful forces behind American racism. Economic and political power. The ending of the film is suggestive: a group of released Asian immigrants walks helplessly on the streets of New York, implying that although the protagonist of the film has tried his best to fight for justice, he has not brought any hope for the future of these unnamed aliens.

It feels a bit too fake.

Crash quotes

  • Officer Ryan: You know, you don't like me, that's fine, I'm a prick, my father doesn't deserve to suffer like this, he was a janitor, struggled his whole life, saved enough to start his own company, twenty three employees, all of them black, paid them equal wages when no one else was doing that, for thirty years he worked side by side with those men sweeping and carrying garbage, then the city council decides to give to minority owned companies preference to city contracts and overnight my father loses everything, his business, his home, his wife, everything, not once does he blame your people, now I'm not asking to help me, I'm asking you to do this small thing for a man who lost everything, so people like you can reap the benefits, and do you know what's its going to cost you? Nothing, just a flick of your pen.

  • Fred: [On a movie set] I think we need another take.

    Cameron: That looked pretty terrific.

Fred: This is going to sound strange but is Jamal seeing a speech coach?

    Cameron: What do you mean?

Fred: This is weird for a white guy to say this, but have you noticed he's been talking a lot less "black" lately?

Cameron: No, I haven't noticed that.

Fred: Really? Like in this scene, he's supposed to say "don't be talking about that", and he changed it to "don't talk to me about that".

Cameron: You think because of that the audience won't recognize him as a black man?

    Fred: Is there a problem?

    Cameron: Excuse me?

    Fred: Is there a problem?

Cameron: No, we don't have a problem.

Fred: All I'm saying it's not his character. Eddie is supposed to be the smart one, not Jamal, right? You're the expert here but to me it rings false.
