Whitewashed "Love Season"

In the autumn of 2001, I bought this film called "The Season of Forgetfulness". Perhaps the cover picture was suitable for the season, or perhaps the title text awakened my quiet mood. In fact, the real motive was nothing more than because it was A Vietnamese movie. I can't remember what the autumn of 2001 was like, but the disc of the movie was thrown into the corner with many of my compatriots and was idle for three years.

Speaking of Vietnamese movies, I can only think of two people - Chen Yingxiong and Bao Tony, precisely this movie is Bao Tony's debut. Vietnamese directors (of course only talking about these two people) have a common problem in making movies, they are all using Western ideology to make the appearance of the Vietnamese nation. Chen Yingxiong slowly creates a beautiful and green picture with a lazy video rhythm. No wonder the petty bourgeoisie likes his sadness. Perhaps this is not unrelated to Chen Yingxiong himself being French and Vietnamese. Corresponding to Chen Yingxiong, Tony Bao went to the United States when he was two years old. If Chen Yingying's film is a French feast, then Tony Bao's film is an authentic American burger, pretentious and arty. . However, the film debut will choose to shoot the hometown of life, and this complex of seeking roots and ancestors is still worthy of respect.

The content of the film is about the yearning and seeking of the poor people for the unreachable desire. It is easy to understand the poverty of a person. Untimely birth, lack of the right way in the world, setbacks and oppression, miscarriage of birth, etc., may all lead to a person’s poverty and misery, and poor people often have some things they can see but feel in their hearts. Unfulfilled wishes, such as Ah Q's desire to sleep with Wu's mother, Xianglin's wife's wish to bring the dead child back to life, and so on. Wishes, or beliefs, are the courage and strength to support poor people to live in the face of reality. As long as there is always a radish dangling in front of them, a donkey-like body will work tirelessly to move forward with life. The pace continues to look forward. The protagonists in the film are exactly this type of people. Unfortunately, under the American packaging of Tony Bao, they are filled with fat and powder, which is only a fake, and it is difficult to see the flexibility of people's suffering.

Open Tony Bao's video rouge box to see what's in it. A girl who sells lotus on the street, a poet who is disabled by leprosy; a tricycle driver who sleeps in the wind, a prostitute who picks up customers every night; a homeless street child who sells goods, and a lonely American veteran who cherishes seeds; thus constitute the three clues of Vietnam The picture scroll of low-level life, so the film was also translated as "Love Three Seasons". In the poet's memory, the white lotus drifting with the waves and the tragic lyrics in the girl's song, this is a season; the pure and extraordinary white clothes on the prostitute and the holy and hot love in the driver's heart, this is a season; the boy's innocent persistence and the old soldier Tears of repentance, this is a season. There are two wishes tied to each clue, which is enough to make people emotional, but Tony Bao, who is deeply influenced by the Hollywood model, has used a meticulous narrative structure to make one wish dissolve another wish. , the final big bright ending, farther and farther from reality. Vietnam, a nation that was deeply grieved by the trauma of the war, its love for poetry, its defense of dignity, and its sincerity of hope are hard to find in the film. The reason is that all the pain in the trajectory of low-level destiny is vulgar. Covered by her beauty, it's like taking a wedding photo. After heavy makeup and bright light, it doesn't look like the person in the photo. While I like the scorched yellow-toned photography in the film, I can't applaud its less-than-desirable aesthetic brilliance.

Finally, I would like to mention the wedding photos again. No matter if you are good or bad, beautiful or ugly, under the whitewash, your face is the same in the world. Just ask, does this still make sense? In that year, "Loveless Season" was enlarged and enlarged in this way, embedded in the rigid picture frame of Hollywood, and hung on the marriage bed of American movies, for those wedding guests who claimed to be married between the United States and Vietnam to enjoy.

Three Seasons quotes

  • James Hager: I made many mistakes in my life. That was a long time ago. Have I met the same man I was then? A lot of times past. When a chance comes around to make a wrong a right it's a special thing. But I hoped to make one thing right.
