Every one in the world has his individual volition, which cannot be predicted and measured by an absolute stranger. In so far as human understanding, only things that are consistent and regular can be cognized correctly. And other things, taking human volition as an example , can only be considered as former things by human understanding when we have to cognize them, viz., making them objects. When we do that, we cheat ourselves, for they are veritably beyond our ability of understanding.
Before modern society, people lived without many strangers in daily life; they can make decisions that led to distinct effect. So to a certain extent we can say that they control themselves' destinies. By contrast, modern society is an enormous gather of populace, and for the same taste is a huge tangle of human volitions. One's decision to do anything is bound to encounter others' volitions, and if someone's decision is crashed by any of those destinations will be not as predicted. As long as we can live only once, in such a society we cannot know what others want to do in the next second as a consequence of the diversity of purpose. So it can be inferred that we live only of coincidence, we cannot say we can control ourselves' destinies at any level.
And if we could live twice or as Frederich Nietzsche mentioned, “eternal resurrence”, would one have controlled the destiny of his own? The director says “NO”.
