Four and a half stars, classic cult film. I personally think that the viewing degree is much higher than that of the Alien series, the monsters are more terrifying, and the settings are also endlessly memorable.
The story is very smooth. From the beginning, the Norwegian drove a helicopter for thousands of miles to chase and kill the dog. And at that time, I discussed the behavior of this dog with Nanpiao that it was not a "dog", and there was a sense of alienation when seeing people not wagging their tails. This question was quickly answered. It turned out that this is not a dog at all, but "the thing" (ps original dog actor is also a well-known movie star lol).
Behind the monsters gradually revealed their brutal features, using psychological warfare to kill the scientific research personnel one by one and put everyone at risk. The screen was also full of blood, with many classic monster anamorphic shots, and even some unique aesthetics. The scene where the doctor saved people with electric shock really shocked me. It was completely unexpected.
The white space at the end is also just right. Are the black players who come back suddenly a monster? The tired protagonist slumped on the ground, thinking that the monster was finally solved but did not expect despair to strike again.
And I think the setting of this film is more scary than Alien. For aliens, I always have a sense of separation of reality, because the spaceship/alien’s appearance/story background and other settings make me always clearly know that this is not true and will not happen. The setting of the strange shape is that the monster will absorb you, imitate you, and eventually become the real you. This setting is very easy to extend, what if the monster escapes quietly? Is there actually a lot of "the thing" lurking in society that is gradually encroaching on humans, what if our side is already occupied by this monster? We never know. This is the biggest fear this film brings us.
