Jane's ability to go to Gombe cannot be separated from her mother's cultivation since she was a child. Her mother never restricted her from doing things just because she was a girl. When it was unsafe for her to travel alone to Africa, her mother volunteered to accompany her and opened a clinic to help Africans.
