Regina King's first film, adapted from the play of the same name, brings together four famous civil rights figures, Malcolm X, Sam Cook, Jimmy Brown, in a night of 1964, yet to be renamed Muhammad Ali's Cassius Clay, now only Jim Brown of the four is still alive, the script rewritten by Kemp Powers is excellent, the supporting roles are very characteristic, the four leading actors have excellent performances, the actors and The prototypes look remarkably similar, and Leslie Odom Jr. deserves a Best Supporting Actor nomination.

Although the history did not carefully describe what the four of them talked about, at least the film gave us a convincing plot. Combined with historical facts, the four talked about Muslims, the civil rights movement, black power, Islamic countries, Ilya Muhammad, reputation, white discrimination outside, black discrimination inside, and so on, there are many conflicts.

The film spends most of the time in a room. Muhammad Ali mainly mediates other people's conflicts in the film. Although Jimmy Brown also mediates with Malcolm, he appears in the lines many times. Malcolm and Sam Cooke Controversy arose many times.

In the first act, the four people all encountered discrimination from white people and told their own experiences, but the rhythm of this paragraph is a bit problematic, but fortunately, it will start to rise gradually after entering the main topic, mainly the boxing ring part.

The dialogue between the four of them in the second act, Malcolm was out chatting with his wife and daughter, the three were chatting, and after returning, he began to talk with the other three one by one, and finally had a conflict with Sam Cook, who released white music and talked about doing it for black people. With the spirit of truth, reputation, and soul music, what the four of them do are for a better future for black people. They have caused some mistakes in different ways. It is also a big point to lay a foreshadowing with a different attitude from the two bodyguards. This scene is on the balcony four. It's the best time with people standing there, the unique narrative, and what makes this scene so wonderful after the quarrel.

Act 3 Jim talks to Malcolm, Cook talks to Clay in the car, the four people who should be partying keep arguing, as Clay said: "What you have but take for granted." Get out control of white power.

After all this, the film culminates with a performance about Sam Cook's soul music, Malcolm and Cassius arguing over whether or not to be a Muslim, until the fraternity is mentioned, and then the press The sudden visit of Sam Cook interrupts everything, all conflicts are resolved through the party, and Sam Cook's unpublished song is the highlight of the final scene, which elevates the film and sings the soul in the heart.

In the end, Malcolm's real-life ending was killed, Regina King quoted the memoir, at least not clearly marked the death of Sam Cook, too tragic, the film adaptation of the screenplay to fill in the imagination of the blank content in history.

Now all these civil rights movements are still going on. The collision of black culture and politics has caused people to think deeply. As the director's first film, this film is already very good, and the lyrics of the ending song also contain all the power. Watch the impressive video later.

Personal professional characteristics interspersed in "One Night" Mature is not like a debut :) In fact "One Night" is a time limit for the player/viewer to pay a higher attention: thinking about the dream instead of letting it go with time or fame Become no longer motivated, witness the inspiration of revisiting history such as contemporary life, corresponding to the current awakening of the rights of African-Americans and new understanding of ideology

It can be seen that it was adapted from a stage play, and the proportion of indoor and outdoor scenes is unbalanced, which makes the outdoor scenes (or the scenes outside the hotel) appear somewhat redundant. The four stars are mainly because of the solid dialogue, the polyphonic ideological confrontation around the issue of black equality, and the brilliance of the play itself cannot be obliterated because of the suspicion of fighting for the Olympics.
