classic

I watched "Big Fish and Begonia" a long time ago. I watched "Big Fish" a few years ago. I think the latter is more profound than the former. It can be said that many things of the former imitate the latter and lack the core. (For example, the novel "The Legend of Wukong" draws on many things from "Journey to the West", but has many things of its own.)

"Metropolis" is one of the rare movies that is a notch better than "Big Fish". In front of "Metropolis", "Big Fish" is slightly pale. But Big Fish offers an open world view, not a didactic.

But no matter what, "Metropolis" is a classic. There are always a few of these movies, novels, that are considered historical classics, to the point that everything else is just a retelling of that story. Metropolis is that kind of movie.

some flaws

From the very beginning, this felt like a way of "making the best use of existing technologies", without considering technologies of completely different dimensions, but those were the first to break through. Skyscrapers are not fundamentally different from those of the last century, but the technological breakthrough of information technology, which is a completely different dimension, is how audiences distinguish contemporary from modern - a completely different aesthetic. That is to say, maybe the super artificial intelligence imagined now also made this mistake. It may be in the aspect of material biochemistry (this is said to be a very pitiful profession..) First, the breakthrough will double the lifespan of people, and then the aesthetics will be completely different-maybe It is through this that everyone distinguishes the aesthetics of the future and the present era.

Then the rhythm is too slow, and it feels very comfortable to watch at twice the speed.

I always feel that the heroine will actually die, and I always feel that it is not right to give a happy ending. There are more tragedies in history. For example, Xingmei in "Cloud Atlas" is more real... Of course, there are also some who have not died.

However, according to the current momentum of AI, I am afraid the ending will not be what it is in the film. That is to say, the inventor and his invention may be more than nb. In the end, maybe it's something like a transhumanist, just like a robot cat...

marvelous! A 1927 movie actually made me watch so engrossed! The rhythm is lively, the conflict is intense, it is really a good movie! The part showing the structure of the metropolis also shocked me. I didn't expect the first half of the movie to contain love elements. BTW, the acting of the heroine as a robot is really amazing! The last scene, "The Mediator of Mind and Hands," was very moving. ps. The theme song is nice!

An incomplete dystopian fable, but a future conception + religious metaphor is still enough to create an excellent viewing experience. The performance of the two-city structure is quite magnificent, and it is really remarkable to be able to make such an effect nearly a hundred years ago. The ideology is reformist. Metropolis is the Tower of Babel and Babylon that did not completely collapse, Mary is the Christ who escaped capture, and Hull is the demonized rebel. Fritz Lang sharply saw the wealth gap and class contradictions that existed in the society at that time, and even saw the fragility and ethical problems of civilization caused by science and technology, which is rare. But in terms of solutions, he naively believed that it could be coordinated and improved through moral or peaceful means. The film ends with a handshake between the head of labor and the ruler. It seems that the two sides reached a settlement through Fred as an intermediary, but what about after the settlement? The fundamental contradiction between the two sides has not actually been resolved. The prophecy of the Book of Revelation will come again. The so-called "the coordinator of the hands and the brain must be the heart" is just the wishful thinking of the vested interests.
