humble opinion

Compared with Ozu's early silent films and mid-stage black and white films, I prefer the latter color films. They are bright in color and have a relaxed and humorous atmosphere. Although they are not as dignified as "Tokyo Story" and "Maiqiu", they have their own flavor. The actresses have changed from Hideko Takao, Kinyo Tanaka, and Chiyo Muguro to a new generation of Shima Iwashita, Shi Ye, and Moliko Okada. Only Setsuko Hara and the elderly Sugimura Haruko are unstoppable, and they often play roles in Ozu's mid-late films. In terms of male actors, Keiji Sada has recently risen, and in addition, there are "eternal fathers" Kasa Zhizhong and Saofen Toshin, Kita Longji, and Nakamura Noburo, three people who are familiar to the audience but still unable to name them.
When the three of them get together, there is always a laugh. In "The Taste of Saury", they will deceive Li Zhizhong around, and they will also tease the proprietress of the izakaya in "The Flower of the Other Side". In this film, Sansouyou teases the proprietress again, saying that her husband must live a long life. On another occasion, in the office, the president played by Rishin Saofiri revealed his identities in front of Takato and Ako, embarrassing each other. After that, the two bumped into each other again in the corridor. Takato revealed where Ako works, and also revealed the mutual friends of the two, which provided a premise for each other's dating. The two looked at each other and smiled, both interested. Next, it should be logical to insert the picture of the two dating. But don't worry, Ozu put the mother and daughter's trip first. Setsuko Hara plays the mother, dressed in a kimono, drinking Sapporo beer, and talking about her daughter's marriage. After several scenes of returning from a trip, hiking, playing mahjong, and chatting on the rooftop, when the camera turned to the hotel again, Ako played by Si Ziye was replaced by Takato played by Keiji Sada.
Ozu, as always, moves the camera from a low camera position. Yuriko's lesson on three bad friends is a representative scene. In the play, Yuriko looked up from a low camera position and looked down from above. The three educated people, either close-up or panoramic, took parallel positions, and did not condemn in their sermons. For me personally, Yuriko, played by Moliko Okada, is more attractive than Ako, played by Shi Yezi. In the limited playing time, she dared to point out Yazi's fault, and showed her generosity when her friend was angry; she had the courage to break the boundaries of age and inferiority to Sanshouyou, and denounced the following crimes; The three have fun and take them to their own sushi restaurant for consumption; at the end of the film, in order to relieve Azi's mother from loneliness, he brings a gift to visit after the wedding, and promises to visit often in the future.
In the film, Ozu borrowed Si Yezi's words to say something very experienced in life, which also benefited me. When the mother asked whether to exchange photos with the blind date beforehand, Ako said that it would be bad if she refused after seeing the photos. A friend introduced me to my girlfriend the other day. If I refuse without knowing the other person's appearance, I am influenced by it: if I know the other person's appearance and then refuse, it will not be good.

I just watched "Saury", and I'm a little tired of seeing this again.

My favorite Ozu so far, Setsuko Hara seems to have some problems after eye surgery.

Late Autumn quotes

  • Shuzo Taguchi: Who told you that?

    Nobuko: You did.

Shuzo Taguchi: I said that? When?

Nobuko: When you were drunk, celebrating Yoko's birth.

Shuzo Taguchi: Really? I said that? I used to be so honest.

    Nobuko: Yes, more than now.

  • Akiko Miwa: Mr. Taguchi is very amusing.

Soichi Mamiya: Too amusing! Everything he touches turns into a farce.
