girl's farewell

In February 1999, a teenager Sullivan rode his bicycle through the bleak and cold sky of Paris, bought a small box of candy from a vending machine, and then bought a rose at a roadside stall. In February 1999, a young girl, Camille, was lying naked on the bed. The light in the room was so cold that she seemed to have just stepped out of an oil painting. Sullivan put the bright red rose next to Camille.
Sullivan dropped out of college to travel to South America. Camille was in Paris reading Sullivan's letters from halfway around the world. Then, there were no more letters.
In 2007, Camille graduated from the Department of Architecture and became a project manager for the first time after having a stable relationship with his mentor. A chance encounter with Sullivan's mother on the bus restores their long-lost connection. It was midsummer in Paris on the day we met, and every corner was full of bright light. Sullivan rode an old car and appeared in front of Camille. His face and figure had not changed in the slightest. juvenile.
The unforgettable and unforgettable memories of his youth reappeared in front of his eyes again, followed by the same confusion as the original. Camille felt that she had been in love with Sullivan for so many years, even though she had already made up her mind with her mentor to start a family. She can confidently command the construction workers at the project site, but in front of Sullivan she is still the same ignorant young girl back then. Then, Sullivan disappeared from Camille's life again, for nothing new: it wasn't the right time.
At the end of the film, Camille and her mentor went to the mountain villa to spend the summer. She wore Sullivan's straw hat and walked down the trail and ideal hut, and went down to the creek they swam together. The wind blew away the straw hats on the shore. Camille was unaware, swimming slowly in the river water sprinkled with broken gold.
This is the general plot of the French film "Goodbye First Love", or more simply: love-separation-reunion-separation. Such plots are staged every day in TV and movies, in all corners of the world, either bloody or plain. In "Goodbye First Love", the simple plot is weakened again, and the camera follows Camille's life without emotion, allowing the passage of time to show the girl's farewell to her first love. This setup doesn't put either side of the relationship on the top, doesn't set anyone as the weak, just tells the audience that there was such a relationship, it was beautiful, struggling, and finally it was over. The film does not try to serve a man and woman in love with a bowl of chicken soup for the soul that teaches you how to keep your relationship fresh, nor does it comfort a broken love or inspire the audience to end being single. Like all boring but beautiful French films, it tells you that life itself is worth remembering, that sadness and joy, interdependence and loneliness are the tastes of life, regardless of superiority or inferiority.
"Goodbye First Love" cannot be described as wonderful, because it is too bland. But the word "beautiful" will not be biased. I have watched Hollywood blockbusters, and every time I see this fresh French sketch, I will always marvel at the French people's love for their surroundings. In the film, the streets and countryside of the four seasons appear randomly in the lens, but every beam of light in every corner is full of beauty. This is not a dream movie set, but a portrayal of real life. So its beauty is close to the audience without any sense of distance, even if it is thousands of miles away.
The most emotional scene in the film is that Camille and Sullivan meet again after many years. Sullivan's face and figure have not changed in the slightest, and even his temperament is the same green boy. Camille has come out mature and generous, but Sullivan is still the cyclist. For a woman, this is probably the most lethal old love. The love of the year is still the same as the beginning, no matter how hard the heart has been tempered by life, when this piece of flesh appears in front of me, I can't help being hit in the chest. Therefore, the plot in the film that Camille said that he has been in love with Sullivan for so many years is not so convincing. What Camille saw in Sullivan was the good old days of stagnation. But in Sullivan himself, he's just a man who refuses to grow up and compromise, and has actually been left behind by time moving forward. There is such a scene in the film, when Sullivan decides to leave Camille again, he sees a news on TV of a fleeing horse running through the slippery streets of Paris, stumbled, panicked and out of place. Is this not the state of Sullivan? He also finally understood that, compared with Camille, he was really forgotten by time. Therefore, even if the two embrace each other naked, they are separated by an insurmountable distance. Compared with Camille, Sullivan said goodbye to this relationship earlier. After Camille finally accepted the fact that her old love was gone, she said goodbye not only to her first love, but also to all the immaturity in a woman's life. So far, the girl has finally grown into a woman. This is the cruelty of reality: there are eternal boys, but no eternal girls, even if the latter is much better.
