"Star Wars: The Last Jedi" is no longer a "Star Wars"

After watching The Last Jedi for the first time, I didn't have the unfulfilled feeling of watching Rogue One last year. The second brush strengthens the view on many issues. The third brush is to finish watching (fortunately it is 3D, some really can't stand the lens can take off the glasses).

The first problem with The Last Jedi is that there are too many stalks. Obviously Disney has moved the routines from the Marvel movie to this Star Wars movie. No matter how serious the scene is, there must be a smile. At the beginning of the movie, Poe was able to fool General Hux. The First Order and the Resistance are all-out wars, why waste time gagging? Luke's return to Millennium Falcon after many years was originally a very emotional scene, but it turned out to be followed by Chewie and a group of facial porgs. The scene where Rey learns from Luke what the Force is has to be funny. Kylo shirtless and Rey Force FaceTime caused the audience to laugh. These deliberate smiles completely disrupted the rhythm of the movie.

The enduring theme in Star Wars should be the battle of wits and courage between the good and evil. However, in The Last Jedi, mentally handicapped and foolishness have a lower limit than IQ. The First Order and the Resistance have no established strategies at all, just take one step at a time. Let me talk about the First Order first. Obviously already knew the location of the Resistance, Star Destroyer succeeded in intercepting but did not fully fire, but instead had to wait for Dreadnought's charging cannon. We later saw in the movie that the First Order bought TIE Fighter, TIE Bomber and TIE Intercepter from arms dealers. So why only use TIE Fighter for offense and defense? The Resistance’s Bomber was too slow, but the Star Destroyer watched the excitement. The engineer who designed Dreadnought must have never read empire history. A two-meter-wide exhaust hole is not safe, and it can actually put the structural weakness of the warship in the center of the hull. After the Supremacy, the flagship of Supreme Leader Snoke, caught up with the Resistance, everyone continued to watch the excitement. Kylo Ren's TIE Silencer and the escorting TIE Fighter could clearly attack the only remaining cruiser of the Resistance at close range, but Hux ordered the withdrawal. Change to fire from a long distance to tick. If Lord Vader was still alive, Hux, a useless General, didn't know how many times he had been strangled to death.

Let's take a look at the story line of the Resistance escape, which is probably written after the screenwriter's head was caught by the door. First of all, Rose is a character who wastes time and life completely. Her and Finn's play in Canto Bight has no practical significance to the development of the story. And if they don't go, the Resistance won't have so many unnecessary sacrifices (a few long-legged dogs will be "worth it", please, your comrades will all be destroyed). The heroes in the main story went to great lengths to get through the fire and water to get the structure of two Death Stars; this is the ready-made Snoke flagship structure of Resistance. Next, I want to talk about the story of the Resistance. From D' After Qar withdrew, the definite destination of the Resistance should be Crait (rather than suddenly appearing inexplicably like in the movie). Vice Admiral Holdo informs everyone that the First Order has the ability to track them at the speed of light, but don't worry. After the fleet arrives at Crait, the small transport ship can reach the surface of the planet silently under the cover of the cruiser. Then, as in the movie, Holdo sacrificed himself and drove the cruiser into the Supremacy at the speed of light. The remnants of The First Order and the Resistance finally fought a desperate battle on the surface of Crait, and both sides suffered heavy losses until Luke appeared. This is to avoid the stupid conversation between Poe and Leia between "permission to blow something up" and "permission granted". The Supremacy has a wingspan of 60 kilometers and the X-Wing is only 10 meters. "Blow something up", you and what army? The second is that after the tragic death of actor Carrie Fischer last year, Leia's whereabouts are drawn a successful conclusion. Kylo couldn't bear it. Leia and most of the Resistance's top leaders were bombed and killed under the attack of Kylo's TIE Fighter, which is considered a reasonable fate. As a result, the director came to a Leia Flying Fairy, which surprised the fans. The third is that Finn should be allowed to die bravely. Rose's act of saving Finn in the movie is extremely stupid and selfish. Not to mention that she used her ski speeder to hit Finn and it is very likely to cause the death of both cars. Finn decided to sacrifice herself for the sake of the overall situation and preserve the comrades in the base is very noble. From a stormtrooper who blindly obeys orders to a Resistance fighter who sacrifices himself, Finn will be a very deep character growth and shaping. In the end, it was to give Captain Phasma a heavier role instead of being abused by the soldier Finn for the second time. Speeder crashing into Finn is very likely to cause the destruction of both cars. Finn decided to sacrifice himself and protect the comrades in the base in consideration of the overall situation. It is very noble. From a stormtrooper who blindly obeys orders to a Resistance fighter who sacrifices himself, Finn will be a very deep character growth and shaping. I can hardly complain about the Rey and BB-8 Marisu style settings. Rey may be strong with the Force, but it doesn't mean that she can slash people with the lightsaber. Luke is still a descendant of Anakin, and as a result, he lost his right hand in Empire Strikes Back and was almost electrocuted by Palpatine in Return of the Jedi. In The Force Awakens, Rey defeated Kylo Ren who was seriously injured. In this movie, after cutting a stone, she was able to fight against Snoke's elite Praetorian Guard, and only suffered a little skin trauma. Give me a break! BB-8 is even more nonsense. The sky can open X-Wing, the ground can run AT-ST, and the coin machine gun 1v3 can also be fired in the middle. No matter how cute the character is set, it should be reasonable.

If I personally consider the two best Star Wars movies, The Empire Strikes Back and Rogue One, as a yardstick, The Last Jedi does not deserve to be included in the list of Star Wars official history. Even if compared with the mocked prequel trilogy, this movie is a terrible failure. Air combat has no strategy and logic; land combat lacks lineup and momentum; lightsaber duels are almost non-existent (not to mention the main story, in the prequel three, there is Battle of Coruscant in air combat, Battle of Geonosis in land combat, and lightsaber duels are countless). I think The Last Jedi is the beginning of Disney's Marvelization of Star Wars. The internal conflicts of the decents make no mistakes, and they use their brains after the threats, or even completely rely on luck; the villains mostly lack depth, either soy sauce, lunch, or brain damage. The audience finished watching the movie in joy, this should not be the effect that the main line of Star Wars movies should achieve. The only thing worthy of recognition in The Last Jedi is the growth and shaping of Kylo Ren. I see that fans don’t have too many different opinions on this issue, so I won’t say much. As for Luke's destiny, I can't understand why he didn't come to the scene to face Kylo Ren in person.

Master Yoda said to Luke in the movie: "The greatest teacher, failure is." The Last Jedi is currently the most controversial movie in the Star Wars series, and in my eyes it can be called failure. We can only wait and see if we can become Disney's greatest teacher.

Supplement: I have read some discussions about this movie recently. Among them, the biggest challenge to the existing Star Wars history (which I completely ignored) is Holdo's operation (maneuver). The criticism is that if entering the hyperspace can cause such destructive power, why hasn't anyone tried it in the history of the Star Wars universe for thousands of years? Or it is possible to make X-Wing-sized hyperspeed missiles. It will be more effective to set up the program in the navigation system, or use droid as the driver to crash into the enemy's battleship or space station. Therefore, this scene of the movie, although very visually impactful, is disruptive and destructive in the established universe of Star Wars. Rian Johnson didn't consider the consequences when he wrote the script. Every Star Wars movie is no longer a self-contained one, but requires careful consideration of its linking influence. This Star Wars is really irresponsible.

The swan song of the hero in the bloody sand. There is a shadow of the empire's counterattack. ACT3 turned the tide and saved the entire movie. The samurai-style lightsaber duel is one of the best in the series. Two more stars are given to Mark Hamill and Kelly Fisher, who contributed the best performances of their careers. Rest in peace and may the force be with you.

  • Luke Skywalker: What do you know about the force?

Rey: It's a power that Jedi have that lets them control people and... make things float.

Luke Skywalker: Impressive. Every word in that sentence was wrong.
