This homophobic reality...

The film is based on real events.

At the beginning, I didn't know the ending in reality, but at the end I was really not sure if what I saw was suicide? or murder? Also don't understand why.

According to Allen's expression, he didn't know. Then the master did it himself.
I don't know why he did this because he can't leave Alan anymore? Seeing Alan asking him to leave, you feel that life is hopeless? Can't go back to the past, can't go back to my family, if I can't live in this countryside, is there no other way? Maybe he was so desperate.

The male protagonist does have a temperament of being abused. It can be seen from the beginning of playing football. The coach is so savage and mean, and he didn't say anything. Maybe his father was a powerful man since he was a child, so he has been "oppressed". "I'm used to not resisting, but not resisting doesn't mean I don't feel it in my heart. That's why he was brave enough to be himself, cut off all ties with the past and his family, and decided to stay, but found that he couldn't live with Alan. I can understand suicide.

Speaking of Alan, I always thought he was quite strong, and he was still with him when he was beaten at first, but the pressure from his family and surroundings finally made him out of breath. When I saw him cry, I felt that the world was so dark. It's like there is a screenshot, they are sitting on the roof, so close to the sky, all they see is the rolling clouds...depressed, gloomy...no sunlight...

In fact, when I just watched it, I just like the way the director tells the story and the scene in the film. Just watching the plot in the movie will feel a bit ordinary, and seeing such an ending will feel abrupt. Later, after understanding the real ending, I understand the reason why the director did this, and why it ended like this. What I'm thinking now is, I don't know how Ellen is going to live? Will the villagers still discriminate against him? Things spread fast in the countryside, and they couldn't see each other. He could either leave here or continue to endure the life of being stabbed in the back and bullied, but his mother was still here, so he couldn't just leave. The living always carry more...

I still have to reiterate that although I personally think that the male lead is suicidal, there are many different opinions. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I'm right. Welcome to discuss with me.
