rainy sunday

After dinner, I watched a small fresh movie. Recently, the popular Like Sunday, Like Rain. The Chinese translation is "Like a sunny day, like a rainy day." Because he remembered that as a child it would rain whenever it was Sunday. So I personally think that it should be better translated as "Sunday It Has Been Raining".

The story is very simple, there is almost no dramatic conflict, and there are no climaxes. Faint, slow, like a small stream that is not eager to join the sea, flowing calmly in my heart. After reading it, I felt the same way, I breathed a sigh of relief, and my heart was very useful.

The tone of the whole story is sad, and the long piano soundtrack at the beginning sets up a "growing pains" atmosphere. A lonely teenage genius, a frustrated and broken-hearted young girl, and fate made them meet for a while. The director said in an interview that the inspiration for the story came from a walk in the streets of New York City when he met an old acquaintance who he hadn't seen in 25 years. "New York is a place where people seem to be used to walking into other people's lives and then suddenly leaving," he said. The same is true for the two protagonists in the movie. The irresponsible rich hostess entrusts her 12-year-old son to a strange girl who has only known each other for 10 minutes, so that the two people who have nothing to do with each other suddenly have a connection. A few months later, the girl decided to go back to her hometown to find herself again, and left the boy's life again. Such an encounter between "the young master of a wealthy family and the nanny" may seem bland and purely accidental, but it has left a deep imprint on their lives.

Talented teenager Reggie shows the maturity and cynicism that a 12-year-old should not deserve, dislikes socializing, dislikes children his age, and has few friends. He wrote a sad song called Like Sunday, Like Rain. But at the end, when Eleanor was about to leave him, he cried, showing the helplessness and reluctance of a child. Eleanor was a loser when he appeared. His unpromising boyfriend drank all day and stayed up all night. He was fired by the restaurant owner. He was homeless in New York with a big suitcase, and the house was a mess. But when they met, everything changed for the better. Although the age is far apart, the souls of the two people can communicate. It may not be difficult to meet love, but how lucky you are to meet someone who understands you.

The theme song Like Sunday Like Rain, the perfect concerto of cello, piano and cornet, Eleanor played the cornet sent by Reggie, Reggie picked up the cello again, and the two played an eternal song in a parallel space.

The movie ends here, there is no follow-up, and there is no reunion many years later that many people expect. As the director said, people meet in New York, break into each other's lives, and then leave silently. That's how life is, but at least it's rare for that person to genuinely want to get to know you.

It's nice to have money. If you have money, you can take you to a hotel in the middle of the night, you can give you the gifts you want, and you can take you to eat delicious food. I'm too vulgar, although this film doesn't really say that...

Like Sunday, Like Rain quotes

  • Reggie: I guess right around 4 I figured out I was sort of a math prodigy, solving pretty intricate math problems.

    Eleanor: Like What.

Reggie: Multiplying 7 to 10 digit numbers in my head. I could give you the cube root of pretty much any number.

    Eleanor: Like Rainman.

Reggie: No, he was an autistic savant. As you can tell, I'm alert, extroverted, affable and articulate...

    Eleanor: Of course.

Reggie: ...and not to mention devilishly handsome.

    Eleanor: Not to mention.

  • Eleanor: What was the name of that piece you wrote for the recital?

    Reggie: Like Sunday, Like Rain.

    Eleanor: So beautiful.

Reggie: I'll write a part for the cornet.
