In the early 2000s, Japan set off a wave of re-shooting of Hong Kong-made and Korean-made romance films. "New Love", "Star Wish", and "August Photo Studio" were selected by the Japanese side for reshoots at that time.
The Japanese side created "Song of the Sun" after buying the copyright of "New Love", but changed a lot of settings, such as the heroine can only be active at night. "Song of the Sun" is divided into a movie version and a TV series version. The screenwriter of the movie version said that "New Love" is old after all, and many of the setting details cannot be used, so he simply wrote a story from scratch with its skeleton.
The American version of "Midnight Sun" bought the copyright from Japan because it chose to use the Japanese version.
"New Love" - "Song of the Sun" - "Midnight Sun", the more you shoot, the worse it gets, the more tasteless it gets.
