I love this movie, and even if it's not perfect, I'm still willing to give it full marks. When I wrote this long review, I also wanted to be a "barbarian" and refute some of the remarks in the review. Because some of them sound heartbreaking.
"Benji is not cute, not my favorite dog", it is undeniable that I felt the same way when I first saw Benji. Most of the time, cuteness becomes our primary criterion for choosing a dog. Hachiko is naive, so it is more distressing for him to wait for his master in the snow; Xiao Q is docile and cute, so his loving company makes people feel more heart-warming. But Bunji is a stray dog with long, thin coats that is not pleasing at first glance, but he still has shocking and moving qualities—loyalty and love.
There is no substantial harm in disliking and not watching, but this kind of psychology actually has a "darkness" that we ignore. It doesn't matter if the toy is not cute, if you don't like to throw it away; if the clothes are not beautiful, it doesn't matter if you don't like to throw it away; but if the dog is not cute, you throw it away? Or dislike? If Benji was not a dog, but a friend around him, a friend who sacrificed his life to save you, would you dislike him because he was not good-looking, and even the comments would be unfriendly? Not right! We seem to forget that dogs are friends, not just pets. Moeness is its added value, not its value.
Of course, there are also comments that it's okay if the dog is not cute, the emotional bond is too weak and not touching. In fact, it is unbelievable that, without paying, you have received such a heavy love! You see, we are such a reality that we think that we can only be loved if we give. When you get along with a dog, it will wait for you; if you have a dog, it will accompany you... Like Benji, a strawberry, take care of it for a day, why does it depend on life and death! Yes, why, this is the emotional bond you are looking for in the comments~ However, this does not need a reason, the dog is so simple, even a little kindness (you think it is trivial) is enough to make it reciprocate . We are all too obsessed, so obsessed that we can't believe that there is such a pure emotion in the world. Isn't this very sad.
The film is simple, so when we look at it with adult values, it feels childish. Like I said, I love this movie because it taught me to find love with a pure heart and to believe in love.
