'Wendy and Lucy': A Good 80 Minutes

The first thing that attracted me to "Wendy and Lucy" was Heath Ledger's early stage Michelle Williams. The attention to her, on the one hand, is due to the untimely death of her boyfriend, Australian Sunshine Heath Ledger, and on the other hand, because of the special temperament of Michelle Williams, who is beautiful and kind in "Brokeback Mountain". The virtuous wife, the girl who dares to love and dare to hate in "New York Synonyms", is trying to prove herself all the time, maybe one day when we mention Heath Ledger again, everyone will say: "He is Michelle Williams' ex-husband."

The narrative thread throughout the film is consistent, and the approach is very simple, which makes people feel real and intimate. Some netizens once called it the female version of "Wilderness Survival". From the protagonist Wendy's embarrassing situation and yearning for the destination, as well as the pursuit and belief in life, there are indeed some similarities. But in terms of the overall story and the depth of thought, "Wendy and Lucy" is a lot lower.

However, I still like to see "Wendy and Lucy" as a warm sketch. The film is a story of looking for a dog, but it is accompanied by financial constraints, loneliness in life, and the pursuit of freedom. In the film, Wendy loves her Lucy, cares about the disabled, is caring to the doorman, and has confidence in the future, but the part of leaving the dog is very sad, but facing the difficulties of life, she has been silently enduring, Persevering alone, without saying a word of fuck. Watching a one-man show of an actress I like, plus a story about a very good life, is a good time in just 80 minutes.

A little warm, but really not attractive enough. The name translates to "life as it is" quite aptly.

  • Andy: [after catching her for shoplifting] The food is not the issue. It's about setting an example, right?

Wendy: Sir, I'm not from around here. I can't be an example.
