This film reflects the dark society scene at the end of the Heian era with the desolate situation of a family being forced to be separated and broken in a chaotic world. Mizoguchi Kenji expressed the theme of freedom and equality in "Sansho Doctor". The plot mainly revolves around how the protagonist is imprisoned, how to get rid of slavery and rescue many suffering people. The character's destiny and struggle character reflect the tenacity of life and the dignity of human nature. The power of family affection contained in it is extremely powerful and touching. At the end of the film, the scene where the chef king and his mother finally reunite after going through hardships is even more tear-jerking.

When the mother and son were separated, the mother was trafficked to the other side of the river. When her daughter committed suicide, she quietly walked into the middle of the river. In the end, the son found the blind mother at the beach, but the end was not the reunion of the two crying and hugging deeply. The camera panned and went up and down.
