It's funny cuz it's true.

The collision of Chinese and Western cultures, the perspective of a bear child, and the nostalgic style of the 90s (I should not be the only one who smiled knowingly when I heard the beep of the dial-up Internet in Episode 4), which provided a wealth of material for this film. The rare thing is that the stalks are very original and novel, and a large part of the reason is because the screenwriter Eddie Huang has personal experience (and indeed, relying on a large group of "outsider" screenwriters to sit around the imagination is really easy to fall into Those common stereoptype memes went). Only then did I really understand the common golden sentence in American TV series: It's funny cuz it's true.

The material is a blend of Chinese and Western styles, but the way of presentation is the mainstream of American TV series - the picture and voice-over settings remind me of The Middle, the three bear sons The setting reminds me of Malcolm in the Middle (especially the younger son, who is almost like Dewey, the milky little adult in the first 2 seasons). This is also the reason why this film is not only a self-appreciation of the marginalized Chinese in the United States, but is generally recognized by American audiences (broadcast on ABC, which is known for its family-style comedy, and the ratings are good and basically locked in the second season).

Casting was a success. The little protagonist, mother, and two younger brothers are all bright spots.

The last episode was very touching - although the children themselves did not like China, when the classmates canceled China, they jumped out very sensitively, lost their temper, and were moved.
