The movie is based on true events. The story takes place on a small island in Norway called Bastri, where there are many young prisoners, the youngest is only 11 years old, and the oldest is only 18 years old. Every day, in this closed and oppressive environment, children are forced to work overload because only in this way can they get enough food to satisfy their stomachs. Here, beatings and scoldings of prisoners are commonplace, and only because of a small mistake, sometimes for no reason at all. In such a bad environment, the prisoners were domesticated, and no one thought of resisting.
Seventeen-year-old Erling (Benjamin Helstad) has just arrived on the Devil's Island, where he is serving his sentence. The cruel life on the island made Erling feel hopeless. When the oppression of the jailer broke the critical point and caused tragedy, it was Erling who led his companions to launch a violent resistance. Just when Erling seized the island's dominion, the Norwegian government's 150-strong army was rapidly approaching.
