"Everything in the floating life has been framed into a painting, right there." - Mo Di

Today, Uncle Jun watched a love movie "Maudie" that may be the best this year . Probably because Uncle Jun is more rational. After watching the whole film, he was not moved to cry like many people who have watched it. He was even amused several times by the optimistic and humorous attitude of the protagonist Mo Di during the watching process.

This is a film adapted from the Canadian female painter Mo Di. The film tells the life of Canadian folk artist Mo Di in a plain tone. Therefore, rather than a love movie, a biographical film is more appropriate. The love elements in the film are only sporadic embellishments in the film. Mo Di's ordinary but legendary, seemingly dark but colorful life is the main line of the film.

Mo Di's life seemed bleak: She was born with rheumatoid arthritis, which left her with stiff fingers, a rickety figure, and a crippled walk. In the words of her brother Charles: She can't even take care of herself. Mo Di, who lives in Auntie Ada's house, is also despised, but Mo Di is still eager to dance like normal people and make more friends, just like her declaration of resistance to life: I will find a job , move out of this home.

The encounter between Mo Di and Everett was as if God wanted to help her fulfill her oath. Everett is looking for a housemaid, which is like a life-saving straw for Mo Di, she can finally live freely without Aunt Ada. The film's design of Everett's character also has a strongly contradictory purpose. He is a poor and flawed fisherman, sullen and stubborn, domineering. What he needs is a maid who absolutely listens to orders without thinking; and Mo Di is a person who has her own ideas and sees life colorful at all times. The two of them met from the beginning. It was revealed that they were incompatible.

If discussing what love is, Uncle Jun believes that no one can give an absolute definition. Modi's unintentional painting in the room is the beginning of changing Everett, and if one person can be changed because of another person, it must be love that plays a role in it.

"I don't like most of the people in this world."

"Most people in this world don't like you either...but, I like you."

It's such a simple confession, they got married, and the scene where Mo Di stepped on Everett's feet and hugged on the night of the wedding was the warmest part of the whole film, and also the most affectionate part of Everett: the two of us were like Two abandoned socks . Everett has since become a hard-hearted and soft-hearted person, and Mo Di also began to concentrate on painting with the support of her husband. Her paintings sold for a few cents at the beginning, and finally even US President Nixon bought her paintings. His life seemed to brighten up in an instant, and he became the happiest person.

Everett felt scared, he felt unworthy of Mo Di, he thought Mo Di would leave him, but Mo Di said not to care about other people's opinions, she used tolerance to tell Everett what love is .

When there is fear of losing, that is true love.

Although the whole movie only shows their love fragments sporadically: simple confession, warm wedding moments, insomnia after quarrel and miss each other, and heart-to-heart talk on the swing. But under the narration of such a bland movie, such bland but delicate warm passages are even more affectionate.

Happiness is also an indefinable thing. To outsiders, the life of Mo Di and Everett is poor and boring, but as Mo Di said: Everett gave her everything she wanted. In the end, after Mo Di died of illness, she left a room of her paintings on the walls, which was her whole life and her love for Everett.

There is no vigor and vitality, maybe love will be like Modi and Everett in the end.

The Fairy Tale of the Marginal, Sally Hawkins and Ethan Hawke's performances are fantastic

The whole time I cried like a dog, crying with tears and snot. This is a person who understands the beauty of the world and has a gentle personality. After living for so many years, I truly know that money is not important, intelligence is not important, what is important is a gentle, pure and tolerant heart. Use personality to melt ruthlessness and selfishness, a little bit, very naturally, to make the surroundings more beautiful, like that beautiful painting.

Maudie quotes

  • Everett Lewis: I'm lookin' for a woman...

  • Everett Lewis: Used to be Captain John Ryan's. But I moved it here, from the wharf.

    [cracks his knuckles]

Everett Lewis: Guess how many, uh, oxen it took to move it.

    Maud Lewis: Two?

Everett Lewis: Not two. No. Seven!

    [laughs]

    Everett Lewis: Seven oxen.

Maud Lewis: [laughing] That's a lotta oxen.
