this raucous frenzy

I watched "Fever Tulip" in two nights. The second half of last night's brain was so similar to the real second half I saw tonight, as if I had seen this movie somewhere. That's right... I've read the original... The story is set in the 17th century tulip economic bubble. The Dutch people's mad love for tulips and Yang and Sophia's mad love mirror each other. The film's soundtrack perfectly depicts this hidden restlessness and frenzy. The noisy background music makes the whole world roar with it. The film composition and lighting are also just right, and there are several places that are beautiful and fascinating. The bad part is probably that there are still traces of chisel marks in the beginning and turning of the story, and there is probably a common problem in literary adaptations - the psychological portrayal of characters, which makes the change of mentality too abrupt, and the inner drama of the characters is not deep and delicate enough. However, with such a beautiful body, I recognize it.

The halving star heroine has appeared in countless plots since the Ocean Lighthouse with a green tea bitch face. It's not her fault, but whose fault is the poor painter looking like this ghost? To put it bluntly, sex is more important than love.

It can't be said that the performances are not superb and the production is not good enough, but the love scene, which is the core, is handled so sloppily and carelessly that the whole story cannot be established.

Tulip Fever quotes

  • Sophia: [Henrietta enters the room] What are you looking at?

Jan Van Loos: What am I *looking* at?

  • [first lines]

Maria: [narration] Before you were born, Amsterdam was captivated by a flower: the tulip. They came from far away in the East and were so rare and beautiful that people lost their senses in wanting to own them. Rich and poor were spending and borrowing money to join the trade in bulbs, which were going up in price all the time. None more so than the rare striped tulips that were called breakers. A new breaker came from nowhere like an act of God, and it changed people's lives. A white flower with a God-given crimson stripe turned our lives upside down, mine and my mistress Sophia's.
