Documentary "Jodorowsky's Dunes"
★★★★★
It vividly records that in 1975, two years before the birth of Star Wars, Chilean director Jodorowsky, after reading the masterpiece "Dune", wanted to create a film that could expand his mind and change his mind. A great movie that shapes the soul and transcends its times. Just like the movie "Eleven Arhats", relying on the director's passion and eloquence, he attacked one by one and assembled a team of peerless masters from all walks of life to form the strongest dream team in film history. The artistic creation process took two and a half years. When he and the producer finally took a series of burning dreams, such as the formed movie storyboard, character modeling, scene restoration, music concept, etc., and made a beautiful tome that was created with painstaking efforts, they went to Hollywood to find investment. However, due to the avant-garde concept of the film and the crazy ideas of the director, major mainstream film companies retreated one after another, and the project was forced to shelve.
Although the film project was suspended and "Dune" failed to take shape, the artistic ideas and visual concepts that this unfinished product could not present due to the limitations of the times at the time, but later deeply influenced Star Wars, Alien, Terminator , The Matrix and a series of classics that are now worshipped by everyone. As the protagonist leading the revolution in the story "Dune" said before his execution, you can kill me, but you can't kill me, because everyone has become a dune.
At the end of the documentary, the 84-year-old director said with light in his eyes: "Myself, I have the ambition to live 300 years. I won't live to be 300 years old, maybe I can live another year at most, but I still have Ambition. Why don't you have ambition? Do you want to be immortal? Fight for immortality, do it."
