Frida

MFA opened a big exhibition of Frida. I'm going to see it next week. I watched the movie by the way. I don't know her very well. The first time I heard about her Self Portrait with Cropped Hair in MoMA's Coursera class. , I remember it was when she and Diego divorced. I thought she was cool at the time? Later, I learned about her extremely tortuous life, an unimaginable car accident, and when the movie was put on, I felt that I was in pain... my whole life. It's so inspiring to be able to create so many works of art after countless surgeries, constant pain (and of course her inspiration).

Having such a life story movie itself feels completely enough, so it feels like it's taking advantage of it. The film has a strong Mexican atmosphere, fiery colors, and passionate songs. I still like it. It also combines some of her life events with her paintings, and those small fragments are quite creative. Her miscarriage connected to her very famous Henry Ford Hospital (la camo volando) was really shocking...

Another main line of the film (in fact, I feel this is the real main line) is her love with Diego. Diego, as a well-known painter at that time, a communist, and a romantic personality, naturally does not have the characteristics of a good husband? But the two people are indeed very compatible in art, so... in short, all kinds of drama... Feeling tired of living? However, at the end of the film Frida was launched in Mexico. Digeo’s speech at the exhibition was that his own interpretation of Frida’s art was very touching. Maybe they are connected in the soul of art (so if you meet the so-called soulmate, don’t Thinking of developing an intimate relationship, maybe it’s not appropriate to say???)

Anyway, looking forward to going to the exhibition next week~

(It's embarrassing to be forced to write a movie review just by braille)

  • Diego Rivera: Unfortunately, I'm physiologically incapable of fidelity.

  • Diego Rivera: [upon learning Frida has been unfaithful to him with Leon Trotsky] You've broken my heart, Frida.

Frida Kahlo: It hurts doesn't it? But why? It was just a fuck, like a handshake.

Diego Rivera: No. I told you who I was when you married me.

Frida Kahlo: Yes, you did, and I married you anyway. And, you promised to be loyal. You have been my comrade, my fellow artist... my best friend. But you've never been my husband.
