love is love

It's been weird this year, actively or passively watching a lot of books and movies about the LGBT community. Last week, I watched "The Erased Boy", the story is adapted from the novel of the same name, based on the real experience of author Garrard Conley. The story takes place in the 1950s of the last world. The male protagonist was artificially born into a traditional Baptist family. The Catholic father wanted to "correct" his son's homosexuality and sent him to a specialized therapy school for correction. Later, the male protagonist escaped from the school, bravely faced his true self and reconciled with his father. The whole story is very depressing. The principal of the therapy school used a lot of "therapeutic methods" that we thought were incredible, self-hypnosis through so-called confessions, no physical or eye contact between the participating students, surveillance in the school, and no discussion with the outside world. The school thing...is as absurd as what we now call "electric shock therapy for internet addiction". Fortunately, the male protagonist got the help of his mother in the end and escaped smoothly. The final credits show that the show is based on a true story, and when the original author, Garrard Conley, now lives in New York with her husband, I breathe a sigh of relief, thank goodness. The performance of the male protagonist Lucas is very delicate, and many emotional bursts are shown quite well. The emotional layering of the incomprehension of the treatment in the therapy school is very strong. Nicole Kidman played the ardent mother of her beloved son, and she was a little cowardly in the entanglement. In the end, she was very handsome and fearless when she rescued the male protagonist from the school and went mad at the principal. As a fan of Poke Ye, I can only say that he has too few scenes, but he has a good grasp of the small details. When he "confessed" his "sin" in front of all the students, the trembling hand holding the manuscript was distressing. Each of us will have biases and limitations in our understanding and views, but I still hope that we can look at the world with a tolerant and understanding heart. It's too difficult for us to change other people's thoughts. As long as it has nothing to do with ourselves, people can turn a blind eye. When it comes to conflicts of interest, it is too easy for people to draw swords against each other. I have given up saying to others that "We are created equal", "Love is just love, it has nothing to do with others". All I can do is to be on my own. I hope that when I face minorities, some of them are not flukes. , more of an attempt to understand and support. I also hope that when I become a minority, I can get support, that's all. The joys and sorrows of the world are inseparable, and it is difficult to understand and support them as best as possible.

Boy Erased quotes

  • Nancy Eamons: [to her son Jared] I love God. God loves me. I love my son. That's it. I think for your father it's a little bit more complicated.

  • Jared Eamons: [to his father] I'm gay, and I'm your son. And neither of those things are going to change. Okay? So let's deal with that!
