Perfect curtain call

This is a very straightforward movie. Like many Hollywood blockbusters, there are many elements in his story, such as love, friendship, perseverance, courage... and these elements are not hidden, just like the two in the film. Men's fights are all placed on the table. This makes me seem not tired at all, and can better devote myself to the main theme of the film-disaster.

Unlike disaster films such as "The End of the World" and "The Day After Tomorrow", this is not a film with a strong personal heroism, and the end of the film is not a kiss between the iconic hero and heroine. On the contrary, several crew members in the film failed to overcome the storm and were all buried in the sea, leaving their families with endless sadness. This has increased the humanity of the film. In real life, not everyone can be a hero. Even the captain Tyne, who is as good as the film, is helpless in the face of a huge storm. We have nurtured the pride of "man will conquer the sky" in too many heroic stories. In fact, in front of nature, human beings are simply a drop in the ocean.

Although not everyone can be a hero, everyone can have their own feelings. The feelings in "Perfect Storm" are not as graceful and luxurious as the love between Jack and Rose in Titanic, but are very simple and therefore more tense. For example, I was deeply shocked by the conversation between Tyne and Melissa. Tyne faintly expressed his love for the sea and fishing. This love makes people sincerely envious and admired. No wonder he looked so fearless when facing the challenge of the sea, and even smiled on his face when he sank into the bottom with the fishing boat. This reminds me of the diving enthusiast in "The Big Blue", and finally died in the sea that he loved most and brought him the most challenges. It was a perfect ending. At this moment, they are even happy. Perhaps this is the origin of the title of Perfect Storm. When we feel that our work is unsatisfactory, we should really think about whether we love our work like they do?

A classmate once told me that he was envious of religious people. Imagine that if you are facing catastrophes such as a plane crash or the end of the earth, if you are religious, there will be no fear of death at that moment, and there will be a detached peace in your heart. When love rises to a certain height, it becomes a kind of faith. When Bobby struggled to surface, facing the big wave that was about to destroy him and telling his love for Christina, I could feel his inner peace and detachment.

Perhaps a commercial film like Perfect Storm will never get a very high evaluation, but if we can get some experience outside of the storm, it will be enough.

I love watching George Clooney in a suit...

I missed it when it was released in the cinema, I bought a D5 and couldn't watch it anymore. I was basically immune to movies with all the commercial elements gathered together.

The Perfect Storm quotes

  • Linda Greenlaw: [warning Billy over the radio] Billy? Get outta there! Come about! Let it- let it carry you out of there! What the hell are you doing? Billy! For Christ sake! You're steaming into a bomb! Turn around for Christ sake! Billy, can ya hear me? You're headed right for the middle of the monster! Billy?...

    [starts crying]

Linda Greenlaw: ... Oh, my God!

  • Linda Greenlaw: [at the services for the crew of the Andrea Gail] I knew Billy Tyne, but I did not know his crew very well, but any man who sailed with him, must have been the better for it. Robert Shatford, Dale Murphy, Micheal Moran, David Sullivan, Alfred Pierre... May you rest easy long-liners, in fair winds, and calm seas... For those of us left behind, the vast unmarked grave which is home for those lost at sea is no consolation. It can't be visited, there is no headstone on which to rest a bunch of flowers... The only place we can revisit them, is in our hearts, or in our dreams. They say swordboatmen suffer from a lack of dreams, that's what begets their courage... Well we'll dream for you: Billy, and Bobby, and Murph, Bugsy, Sully, and Alfred Pierre... Sleep well... Good Night...
