If you do evil in the sky, you can do it; if you do it yourself, you can't live-"Perfect Storm" viewing notes

This film feels very complicated to me. First of all, at the beginning of the film, I gave a set of subtitles "This film is based on a true story." This film is dedicated to the ten thousand gloucestermen who have died at sea since 1623 / Seeing these two sets of subtitles makes me feel very heavy. This makes us feel that life is a battle, and only those brave and tenacious people who fight forever can truly realize their true life value, although they may not have a perfect life, at least physically. At the end of the film, Captain Linda set sail again, which seems to mean that people have inherited their spirit and continue to sail for a better future.

From this perspective, the theme of this story is very deep and upward. He straightforwardly explained the true meaning of love, friendship, bravery and perseverance to people, and it conveyed a very positive message to the audience.

However, if the previous two sets of subtitles are aside, I think this story is not a success. Although the ideological connotation of the film is understandable, the whole premise of the story is a big mistake. As I have seen before, "a kind of directional loss is the most terrible mistake. Working in the wrong direction is the worst mistake. People will not sympathize and pity you because of your efforts." , You can do it; if you commit sins, you can't live." Ah.

In this film, the so-called "wealth and wealth are sought in danger", even though Billy knows that there may be a storm ahead, he still "knows that there are tigers in the mountains, and leans towards the tiger mountains." This is understandable and understandable in itself. But what made me unbearable was his arrogance and arrogance. When discussing whether to move on, the other crew members had realized the terrible danger and planned to turn around and go home. But Billy made a mocking gesture and said that they were "a bunch of useless children, too scared to go out and harvest." Billy planned to sail the boat to Cape Fleming, and although this place is full of fish, it is in crisis. Very big. Billy said to the crew "This is the time to tell the truth between men and boys" and asked if they were "Gloucesters." One of the crew members said, "We are men, why should we go to Cape Fleming to prove it?" I agree with this crew member. Why go to a dangerous place given the known great danger? Isn't it a man if you can't say it?

In this way, because of Captain Billy's arrogance and arrogance, they were moving in a wrong direction. He bet on his experience and a good crew. But the main reason for him not to turn around and go home is that if he goes back in this way, although it is safe, but there is no gain, he will sweep his face and continue to face the cynicism of the ship owner and the contempt of others. People living in modern society know that in life, they will inevitably face risks. Some are about face, some are about profit, and some are about life. For a captain who was once a very good captain, he couldn't afford to lose this person, so he wanted to move on. I think so.

In that perfect storm once in a hundred years, Billy and the others faced the risk again and faced the risk of life. If it wasn't for his conceit, if it wasn't for him to feel numb to the long-term danger, if it wasn't for him to change his choices when he realized that there might be serious consequences, then he and his crew might have escaped the disaster. But that is only if, in the face of this storm, there is no if. Precisely because of this, in the face of this storm, they are doomed to escape.

I don't know what kind of attitude Billy would have towards his own choices at the moment before his death. But everything is too late. They were all buried in the sea. Sometimes, there are things that cannot be tried easily. Once they have tried, there will be no chance to regret it again. It must be "a mistake that will become an eternal hate."

After watching the film, although Billy and the other six crew members lost their lives, although they also yearned for a miracle and hoped that they could die and resurrect, they would rest in the sea forever. Regarding their deaths, I didn't feel very sad, or a pity, I just felt that they "made themselves and deserved their sins." Some people may say that I am cold-blooded and ruthless. But as I said in the previous article, "Working in a wrong direction is the biggest mistake. People will not sympathize or pity you because of your efforts."

I am not opposed to taking risks. On the contrary, I like the kind of adventurous people. The world needs people with adventurous spirits. Without them, there would be no Columbus discovering the Atlantic, and there would be no scientific inventions that are increasingly prosperous now. However, we cannot do stupid things under the guise of adventure. In this film, I very much agree with Billy and the others going to Cape Fleming, but that is under the premise that there is no major storm that is about to happen. But because of Billy's arrogance, he and his crew have never returned. He should be responsible for those crew members.

At the end of the film, people held a grand memorial ceremony for the six crew members. For their relatives and friends, their death is indeed heartbreaking. For the 10,000 Gloucesters who died in a shipwreck since 1623, this memorial ceremony is more like being held for them.

If the ideological connotation of this film and the educational significance to me, it is that those straightforward love, friendship, bravery and perseverance are certainly amiable and respectable, but we must realize that people must have self-knowledge, and we can’t do it for the sake of face. For the benefit, for the money, our lives are used as a bet. We cannot work in the wrong direction for short-term benefits.

This film is a true story. The undead of the 10,000 Gloucesters who died in a shipwreck from 1623 to the present, they tell us not only to continue to take risks and fights, but more importantly, to tell us, Life is the most precious, and only working hard in the right direction is the best memorial for them.

I missed it when it was released in the cinema, I bought a D5 and couldn't watch it anymore. I was basically immune to movies with all the commercial elements gathered together.

The Perfect Storm quotes

  • Linda Greenlaw: [warning Billy over the radio] Billy? Get outta there! Come about! Let it- let it carry you out of there! What the hell are you doing? Billy! For Christ sake! You're steaming into a bomb! Turn around for Christ sake! Billy, can ya hear me? You're headed right for the middle of the monster! Billy?...

    [starts crying]

Linda Greenlaw: ... Oh, my God!

  • Linda Greenlaw: [at the services for the crew of the Andrea Gail] I knew Billy Tyne, but I did not know his crew very well, but any man who sailed with him, must have been the better for it. Robert Shatford, Dale Murphy, Micheal Moran, David Sullivan, Alfred Pierre... May you rest easy long-liners, in fair winds, and calm seas... For those of us left behind, the vast unmarked grave which is home for those lost at sea is no consolation. It can't be visited, there is no headstone on which to rest a bunch of flowers... The only place we can revisit them, is in our hearts, or in our dreams. They say swordboatmen suffer from a lack of dreams, that's what begets their courage... Well we'll dream for you: Billy, and Bobby, and Murph, Bugsy, Sully, and Alfred Pierre... Sleep well... Good Night...
