It is rare to find a documentary that is willing to put the main creative team in it to participate in the discussion, so when watching the film, I have been thinking about the relationship between the creation of the documentary and the protagonist.
In fact, making a documentary is a very cruel thing. For example, if the director wants to set up a camera position on the cliff in advance, then he must pre-determine the most difficult place in advance. He will not want his camera to miss any detail, no matter the person His friend or not, whether Alex climbed up step by step or actually fell off the cliff....
When I saw the aerial shots that Alex had designed after reaching the summit, I would wonder if the director also pre-set another way of shooting if he didn't reach the summit. It may be cruel to say this, but it is not to say that He failed, and it would be meaningless to record the incident, so there must be a more comprehensive shooting plan.
In fact, the main creative team is under no less pressure than Alex. There are too many things to take into account in order to complete the film, so when we hugged at the top of the mountain at the end, Alex was smiling, while the director was crying.
Making a documentary is actually a very contradictory existence, because it needs to be real, but there is still contradiction and conflict, so everyone still hopes to dig out the contradiction itself, and asked some directors around you, when you go to poke the "pain point" of the protagonist of your film and When making your film more emotional and moving the audience more, what is the mood? Some people answered that they were actually ecstatic when they saw other people's pain, because this film "finished". And some people will cry silently on the way to the filming, and even feel that they are an asshole. When I hear this, I think, Ah, it turns out that everyone is facing the filming with different moods. This is the charm of documentaries.
Going back to the contradictions in the documentary, it is a pity to see the hot comment that the film focuses too much on the girlfriend instead of the glittering rock climbing dream. In fact, it is not because rock climbing itself has no other contradictions besides death, and death itself It can't even constitute a contradiction for Alex, so he greatly increased his girlfriend's role and told the audience how if he died while climbing, it would have an impact on those who love him. If you want to watch the rock climbing itself, it will be better to watch the rock climbing live broadcast directly.
Of course, these additional things added to this film are not enough to impress me, and the excavation around him is still not enough, but I saw the state and consideration of the creative team and caused some thinking in it. Quite meaningful.
