The film adopts a three-paragraph plot structure, and tells the stories of three generations of grandparents and grandchildren in different eras in Hungary in a hundred years with fun and crazy images. From this point of view, it is more suitable to translate the title "Century of Madness". But the three-part plot corresponds to three typical cultural phenomena of human beings: sex, food, and art. But what I saw was the director's exploration of human nature. The contradiction of human nature is the ultimate factor of social revolution. In different historical periods and social systems, people's own contradictions manifest different characteristics. It's just that the director pulls it out and is independent of the three generations of the century.
The three generations of grandfather and son pursue pleasure and satisfaction through sex, food, and art, but the contradictions of human nature and the deviation of reality are reflected, which can also be understood as the relationship between the flesh and desire. Maybe they all found their own answers, or no answers at all. Addiction or sublimation, desire to confront the spirit. There are many animals in the film, which are metaphors for something.
The film ends in an ultra-modern art gallery, with white buildings, and the audience, dressed in white, looking at the figurines of father and son, listening to the commentary: "That's the main thing...of course, what does everyone say to each other? It is more important to have one's own opinion... For some, it is space; for others, it is time...".
