What a bad decision to watch this movie before going to bed. Now I can't sleep writing movie reviews on my phone.
In my understanding, the stability of a person's spiritual world comes from the stability of his intimate relationship. Intimacy includes, but is not limited to, love, family, friendship, faith, etc. A person must have at least one of these stable intimate relationships to maintain a healthy mental state. At the beginning of the film, the close relationship between the female judge and her husband developed a rift. The husband had the idea of having an affair because the female judge was busy with work all day. The female judge became anxious because she could not accept her husband's physical infidelity. Li also became a little impatient. In the face of the juvenile's refusal of blood transfusion treatment, she had the idea of communicating with the juvenile, although it was not necessary.
The romantic-minded teenager’s initial intimate relationship was with his parents and Jehovah, so he was willing to give up his life or even be disabled for the rest of his life for this intimate relationship with the Lord. The words to the female judge split the boy's world, revealing a new world. After the blood transfusion, his close relationship with his parents and with Jehovah could no longer be restored. He turned to a wise woman judge who had truly cared about his life, and left messages, wrote poems, and followed up with her. The young man is not only romantic but also precocious. The female judge did not leave him behind as an ignorant child. She began to waver when she saw the young man stalking. That time in Newcastle, she was seen through by the teenager. Not only was the teenager attracted by the wise and attractive female judge, but the female judge also eagerly needed an "intimate" relationship and needed the early wisdom and enthusiasm of the teenager to warm the numb heart again. With that kiss, her soul experienced a big earthquake. However, her reason did not think too much, and she habitually refused to have such an incomprehensible relationship with the teenager.
On the night when the teenager was dying, the female judge's sensibility collapsed. What a stubborn teenager, even if he no longer refused blood transfusions because of the church, he still gave up treatment and life naively because he did not get the approval of the female judge. When he was lying alone in the hospital bed, he was probably thinking: my lady will definitely come to see me. Now his life, his beliefs, his intimacy are finally free.
Many critics say it's an Opalus complex. I really didn't see it. I only see two lonely souls approaching each other, which is human instinct. Every kind of feeling is classified as having feelings first, then family affection, friendship, teacher-student affection and so on. The feelings between people are inextricably linked, and it cannot be clearly defined by choosing an option. The sympathy between the two of them? What about the clear thinking of the female judge to guide the romantic thoughts of the teenager? Which category should it fall into? If I had to choose the relationship between a female judge and a teenager, I would choose "intimacy".
After the death of the teenager, the relationship between the female judge and her husband also eased. At the end of the film, it seems that the teenager has become the lubricant of the female judge's marital relationship. In fact, the part of the deceased that is intertwined with our soul has long been left in us. The body does not necessarily need intimacy, the soul still depends on each other.
