Discuss the death of Evelyn (the old black woman)

First of all, the front row recommends "Rosemary's Baby", an older but better work, in which you can see the ending of a group of two or five boys as teammates during pregnancy. Personally, I feel that "Annabelle" was greatly influenced by "Rosemary's Baby". In addition to some of the plots and scenes of the two films, in reality, the director of "Rosemary's Baby" in the Manson murder case is Romain Poland. His wife and unborn baby were killed by the Manson family. In "Annabel", this was adapted as a cult based on the Manson family and attacked the female protagonist who was in labor in order to summon demons.

"Annabelle" is a non- finished movie in summary . The biggest problem is that the movie does not convey the immersive feelings of the audience . The early stage of the movie is pretty good, the atmosphere is really tense and scary, especially the fire period, and the main characters are quite reliable (only compared to other horror movies, not compared with normal humans~), just telling a warm family story in the early stage The time feels a bit too long, and the latter part obviously looks rushed.

Later, when the devil opened the window to the hostess, I started to laugh. I can understand that the hostess gave her soul for her child, because before giving birth, she said she wanted to save the child. But the following plot made me feel confused . Evelyn's death feels inexplicable, and it is also the biggest slot of the show .

It was probably this expression at the time

Evelyn's death

As for why it feels inexplicable, you can sort it out from the perspective of the audience:

1. An old black woman came across the hostess several times, and she was very enthusiastic

2. Helped the hostess to check relevant information about the devil, mentioned to the hostess about her deceased daughter, especially when she was about to die, and heard her daughter say that God had other arrangements for her, and she knew her when such a blunt Flag appeared. Will act as a "savior" in the subsequent plot, of course the "extent" of "saving" is still unknown

3. Knowing that there are demons in the hostess’s house, ran to take care of them, confessed to the hostess the cause of her daughter’s death, and regarded the hostess as a daughter.

4. Encountered a devil and was kicked out of the set

5. Then I returned to the studio and died for his death. Before he died, he said it was his deceased daughter and forced the flag before the round.

6. Although Evelyn’s death saved the protagonist’s family, the protagonist did not show their gratitude and remembrance such as worship, and they never even mentioned her again.

It will be clearer after sorting it out this way, there are about three problems

1. The audience did not understand why Evelyn had to run to help, or even die for her

In the movie, there is not much to show the relationship between Evelyn and their family, so Evelyn was forcibly placed in the position of the "mother" of the heroine .

Although there are a lot of great foreshadowings of maternal love in the early stage, such as the various behaviors of the heroine, the priest's evaluation of maternal love, and it makes sense for the mother to sacrifice herself for the child in this story, but in the story Evelyn's so-called to the heroine "Mother's love" I am very puzzled. The reason given in the movie is only that the heroine and Evelyn's deceased daughter are close in age. It looks like something, this kind of role may be much better for a white actor~

2. Evelyn died too soon

The film didn’t give Evelyn too many lines to portray her character, even when she died, she didn’t create an atmosphere of sacrifice at all.

3. The audience did not see the protagonist’s family thanking/memorializing Evelyn

In the ending, we saw that the protagonist’s family lived a happy life as if nothing had happened. This was in exchange for Evelyn’s death, but she didn’t mention her. From the audience’s perspective, she was in a pool of blood. Exited from here. Old tool man .

Last shot for her

These points add up, and the final result is that the so-called "sacrifice" that the movie shows to the audience is particularly funny.

It's been a long time since I watched an addictive horror movie. But at the end, it’s a bit unjustified to make a kind black woman a substitute for the dead ghost.

So make a fool of yourself. Are American horrors so boring? If the doll makes trouble, can it be burned directly? Don't bring up so many boring things.

Annabelle quotes

  • Father Perez: The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the heart of a mother.

  • Evelyn: I'm old. Which means there's very little that surprises me anymore and if it does, I'm too tired to show it.
