1

Tunner- We must be the first tourists since the war.

Kit- We're not tourists. We're travelers.

Tunner- What's the difference

Port- A tourist thinks about going home the moment they arrive, Tunner.

Kit- Whereas a traveler might notcome back at all.

Tunner- You mean, I'm a tourist?

Kit- Yes, Tunner. And I'm half and half.

2 Port- Kit has days when everything in the world is a sign for something else. A white Mercedes can't justsimply be a white Mercedes. It must have a secret meaning about the whole of life. Everything is an omen. Nothing can just be what it is.

3

Port- Maybe we're both afraid of loving too much.

4 - Are you lost?

Kit-Yes.

- Because we don't know when we will die... we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well,

Things happen only a certain numberof times,

And a small number, really,

How many times will you remember an afternoon of your childhood...an afternoon so deeply a partof you that you can't be without it

Perhaps four or five times more,

Perhaps not even that,

How many times will you watch the moon rise?

Perhaps 20,

And yet it all seems limitless...

When I watched comfort of the strangers, I suddenly remembered this piece. The discovery of Wikipedia, the original work was written in 1949, and the background is set in 1947. After the war, the first generation of confused middle class went directly to North Africa, until the nth generation of young women had an affair with the wretched uncle in Tokyo, carrying forward the lost tradition!

#Northern Film FestivalPhoto#A forgotten classic, shocking. There is only the great Bertolucci who can connect travel with eroticism, marriage, adventure, and life insights so seamlessly. The scenery of the desert is picturesque, the music of the professor is the icing on the cake, how many childhood memories are left, how many times in your life you can watch the moon and the full moon, only God knows.

Narrator: Because we don't know when we will die, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well, yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number, really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that's so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more, perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless.
