True story adaptation

The film is based on a true event that happened in 1925 - the Great Race of Mercy.

In December 1924, Nome on the Seward Peninsula (Seward Peninsula) entered a long winter (7 months) as usual, the Victoria ship had already left the port, and other means of transportation were also impassable due to freezing. Until the coming year's sunshine is warm enough to melt the glaciers, the town's residents seem cut off from the rest of the world. However, when a two-year-old Eskimo boy died mysteriously on the second day of his visit, the town of Nome began its life-and-death thriller. Curtis Welch has been practicing medicine in Nome for 18 years. As the only doctor in the town, he has never found a single case of diphtheria in the town. At that time, he had no right to conduct an autopsy without the consent of the boy's parents, and he could not yet conclude that the boy's disease was diphtheria. Moreover, this susceptible case did not appear in the little boy's three siblings.

In January 1925, when Dr. Welch saw another three-year-old boy, he was sure that diphtheria, a terrible acute respiratory infection, had really come to town. Although he knew the cause, he could do nothing to watch the little boy die the next day. Soon, after he decided to risk the expired antitoxin on the sick little girl, her young life was still irretrievable. In fact, Dr. Welch had reordered the antitoxins as early as last summer, but the life-saving drugs were not delivered in time. Doctors knew that without the antitoxin, diphtheria would spread rapidly among the residents of Nome (say, 975 whites, and 455 Eskimos), and perhaps no one would survive.

On January 22, 1925, Dr. Welch sent an emergency telegram to warn surrounding towns of the danger of an epidemic. He then telegraphed to the U.S. Public Health Service in Washington, D.C., telling them about the current plight of the town of Nome, stressing that the town of Nome is in dire need of antitoxins. However, getting a supply of the antitoxin is not enough; getting it safely to Nome Town is a big problem. Nome's health board got together to discuss the possibilities, and Maynard proposed a bush plane for delivery. However, the water-cooled engine of the dilapidated plane has long been frozen in the ghost weather of minus tens of degrees. Its open cockpit was also not suitable for flying in the cold, short days (which also proved infeasible during several attempts to deliver a second batch of serum). Moreover, the two pilots operating this type of aircraft have long since passed away. The meeting finally decided that the only way to transport antitoxins is to use ancient transportation - sled dog relay.

Beginning on January 27, 1925, 20 sled teams and 150 sled dogs had to travel day and night, across rivers, across plains, through forests, and across the frozen Alaska Post Road. The nearest location for the vaccine is Nanna, 1,085 kilometers away from Nome City. Under normal circumstances, the dog sledding takes 25 days, but it took them only 5 and a half days to successfully complete the relay, saving the lives of many children.

Of the 20 bobsled teams, 19 teams ran an average of 50 kilometers, and one team ran 425 kilometers. The film's male No. 2 prototype is the Norwegian sled master Leonhard Seppala (hereafter referred to as Asai) and his sled team were commissioned to transmit the most dangerous part of the relay, from Nome to Nurato to receive the batch of immune serum. The mission was successfully completed in the environment of minus 30 degrees and strong winds above level 7, and the male No. 1 Togo (Chinese name Togo) in this film is the lead dog of the sled team.

One person, one dog, one heart

In fact, Togo was not favored by the owner at first. Although he was from a good background and was the son of the former team leader, his bloodline was not pure. He was a husky with a dirty appearance. He was petite, weak and sickly. Most importantly, he was too lively and often made trouble. So the owner Asai did not include it in the training list of the sled dog team.

However, it was just such an underappreciated Erha. Through his own efforts, the second gift still managed to return to Asai through various talents and perseverance. It doesn't want to leave the bobsled team, it speaks with action from start to finish, it gets in, and it does the best it can. With physical strength, intelligence and endurance, he constantly won the position of leader of the sled team for himself.

I have to say that a soldier who doesn't want to be a general is not a good soldier, not to mention that he has the blood of the former team leader, that kind of flowing genetic factor, which has been different since childhood, and finally qualified in the sled team. When it was still a puppy, everyone was locked in the kennel. The puppies saw Togo digging a hole and trying to escape, but they gave up after digging. Dig the hole and finally escape the kennel and run free. Another time, when locked in the house by the owner, he observed the internal structure of the house, climbed up with the help of furniture and beams, and escaped successfully through the air vents in the room. And every time it runs, it is always the sled team that is training. In fact, it just hopes that the owner will give it a chance to train.

At the beginning, Asai really thought that this was just a puppy who would always make trouble, but the second time he sent someone to escape home, after all, this time he escaped home through a non-dog way through the window. When Togo's determination was reached, he began to receive training. This psychological change was incredible, and it really gave Togo a chance to perform.

It has a crushing IQ, amazing speed, and long endurance, which eventually won Togo the position of the leader dog. This is the best result it sticks to.

In the serum relay event, the Assai bobsled team had to pass through a huge bay, Norton Bay. According to the previous route, they had to detour 90 miles. 20 miles.

Togo is already 12 years old and has already exceeded the average life expectancy. Even in stormy weather, snow-capped mountains and cliffs, and glaciers with uneven ice layers, Togo and Asai trust and depend on each other, and they exist as family and partners. Successfully complete the relay.

Insights at the moment of the epidemic

The whole process of watching "Togo" was full of tears. At first, it was because Togo was still moved by the opportunity to fight for himself under the obstacles of layers of difficulties. From the perspective of personal growth, to break through one's own shortcomings, or to break through the established impression of society, to achieve a higher and better working and living state, one must rely on physical strength, ability, and endurance. A whole sled team has different abilities. Why did Togo take a fancy to the position of the team leader, and in the end, why did Asai take a fancy to Togo is the only one in his mind, the key moments are highlighted, and the whole film can give the answer .

After that, he was moved by Asai's adventure to take on the toughest sections. Those sick children had grown up watching, and his bobsled team had won championships for many years. He felt that he should take such a responsibility. Asai hopes to bring hope to the city's illness through the ability of himself and the sled team. Asai's wife is the one who is most worried about the life and death of her husband and the sled team. The mayor or the doctor is worried about the situation, patients and medicines. Individuals have different positions and concerns. But being able to understand and support each other can make things run smoothly. Thinking of the conspiracy theorists, those with no social responsibility who hinder medical and protective workers, and the bureaucrats who used their power and money to make money in the country during the epidemic, I really feel that it is not as good as a dog in Togo.

In the end, I was moved by the mutual trust between Togo and Asai. Even at the juncture of their lives, no one gave up their teammates. A team, when faced with difficulties, can't be successful if they fly separately at a difficult time. Only a team that truly trusts and gives each other's hearts can survive the hardships. And the leader of the team is very important, he needs to have team supporters, as well as obedience. Even if the leadership makes mistakes, but can adjust the direction in time, they can still take the right path.
