Mediocre movie

It has become common practice to adapt classic fairy tales into magic movies,
and "Jack the Giant Slayer" combines the two stories of "Jack and the Peas" and "Jack the Giant Slayer". It seems that this film should be a fantasy work, but in fact the whole film is as plain as boiled water. The relationship between the characters is weak and there is no dramatic tension, and the special effects that were originally proud have become shortcomings this time.

The director deliberately unearthed a new theme in the movie, that is, telling everyone that fairy tales are not deceiving. The lines in the film have repeatedly said "the bedtime story you heard is true", including the focus of the lens at the Modern British Museum at the end of the film, and you can also see the director's ambition to sublimate the theme. I want to blur the fairy tale and reality, but this concept is completely emptied. The film only cuts out the most well-known parts of the two fairy tales, and then puts together a mediocre work.

The quality of the script adaptation is the key to the success of the work. The director's role is not only to guide the actors or choose the angle of the camera, but also to capture the part of the story that can attract the audience's attention and mobilize everyone's emotions. As a former commercial director, Brian Singer apparently shot himself up and taught him this time. There are no surprising passages in the development of the movie's story. Jack and the giant are always playing hide-and-seek, and the protagonist only relies on luck and procrastination to defeat the tall enemy. There is no dramatic tension in this setting. It can be said that this is the inherent flaw of the whole film. It is not credible in itself to make unarmed ordinary people and giants duel, let alone make it exciting. Perhaps 200 million US dollars of investment in sensory stimulation can make up for the paleness of the plot, but unfortunately the lack of visual effects in the film is difficult to please the already spoiled audience. The giants' use of motion capture technology to show is quite vivid, but the effect of the big tree is much rougher than the real scene of nature. Fighting with giants is like playing, there is no thrilling moment, I want to create a little humor but can't make the audience laugh. The final siege always gave people a sense of sight of "Lord of the Rings", but the magical atmosphere and momentum was quite different.

The story line of the film feels like a reversal of priority. Jack, who was originally the protagonist, has a very low sense of existence in the movie. In the first half, he is only flirting and swearing. In the second half, the climax is set to play alone with the giant. fight. Among them, the love between him and the princess is just a show of stitches. The protagonist, who was the core character of the story, has greatly destroyed the texture of Lianxi. As the big villains, the giants have been the biggest highlight of the film as early as in the publicity, but their images are shaped dirty and ugly, and their behavior is vulgar, which makes them boring. As a fairy tale movie whose target audience is mainly children, it is really inappropriate. The villains in the movie are both humans and giants with facial makeup, and their strategies in the movie are all young and naive, and they are more than clumsy if they are not successful. At the end of the movie, a group of giants turned out to be a tug-of-war but ordinary humans, and similar plot loopholes can be seen everywhere in the movie.

A summary for this movie is that it seems like a fairy tale but it is really tasteful, expecting giant monsters but appearing young and mentally retarded, and wanting to see a magical blockbuster is actually a trifle. If you want to experience the good show of the princess returned by Diaosi's counterattack, you can only watch the last 10 minutes. A pseudo-magic film under the assembly line industrial chain that had been exerted everywhere but in the end was not polished at all.

Jack the Giant Slayer quotes

  • Elmont: This is a terrible idea.

Jack: Have you ever killed a giant before?

Elmont: And you've killed, what, one? Which makes you an expert now?

  • Isabelle: You know, for someone who's not wildly keen on heights, you're doing awfully well.

Jack: Yeah, I've been doing a little trick Crawe taught me.

    Isabelle: What's the trick?

Jack: Picture something just ahead of you within arm's reach.

[helps Isabelle down so she is within arm's reach]

Jack: Something that makes you happy.

    Isabelle: Sounds easy enough.

    Jack: It really is.
