"Horton and the Anonymous": the embarrassing third in the millennium

Speaking of Hollywood's 3D animation, almost everyone praised the little Pixar lamp, and at the same time they turned on the meniscus of DreamWorks lukewarm, saying that it was the "second in the millennium" and was sad for it. . However, DreamWorks still reminds people, and "Blue Sky Studio" is almost unfamiliar to audiences who are not familiar with 3D animation. However, on the contrary, the work of the studio is as reciprocal-"Ice Age 1&2" and "Robot Story" have once become industry benchmark works, and the residual heat of "Ice Age" has not diminished even today, "Ice Age" The short trailer of "3" has made "squirrel fans" crazy all over the world.

Blue Sky Studio had to face such an awkward state. Although its works can be on par with Pixar and DreamWorks products, its reputation is not as good as the former two. What is even more embarrassing is that due to excessive expectations of "Ice Age 3", "Horton and the Anonymous" has received much less attention.

In the summer of 2008, almost all the eyes of animation fans around the world were attracted by two movies-Pixar's "Robot Walli" and DreamWorks' "Kung Fu Panda". As one of the major products of Blue Sky Studio, "Holden and Anonymous" was released in North America early in May, which undoubtedly avoided the limelight of the first two films. Because from a technical perspective, the two enemies of "Holden and Anonymous" are really too powerful. The technique of the smooth elephant in "Holden and the Anonymous" is a few years earlier. Needless to say, compared with "Robot Walli" and "Kung Fu Panda", even with the work of the same studio, "Ice Age", there is nothing outstanding. In addition to the few water shots that appeared in the film, technically speaking, "Horton and the Anonymous" does not completely satisfy 3D animation fans.

However, "Horton and the Anonymous" has so far had a box office of over 100 million, and has won the box office for two consecutive weeks. This shows that the film itself still has excellent quality, and the biggest highlight of the film is the script.

Both the box office and word-of-mouth losses of "Battlefield Flying Pigeon" in the previous two years were not because of the unflattering image design and mediocre 3D level in the film, but the overall story is really clichéd. Even Pixar and DreamWorks have gone far beyond the technical level of competition, but strive to make the story more beautiful.

Love has become a symbol of Disney, cruelty and coldness are almost the preference of those non-mainstream animations, so friendship has almost become an indispensable element in modern Hollywood mainstream animation. Most animation studios in Hollywood are still happy to unite animals that may be natural enemies in reality on the screen. However, no matter how they toss, these animals can snuggle together on the screen after all, and use physical predictions to express each other's goodwill. However, in "Horton and the Anonymous", we can't see any "warmness" of the protagonists. Because one of them is an elephant, and the other is a villain living on floating dust-this is a character that is completely invisible to our naked eyes. At least in the setting of the protagonist, "Horton and the Anonymous" is indeed quite new. It is this surprising design that makes the whole film extremely humorous.

The two protagonists in "Horton and the Anonymous" cannot physically interact as in "Madagascar". For cartoons, the physical interaction between the protagonists is a key to increasing the film's jokes. However, the Blue Sky Studio let us see the most interesting interaction on the screen so far-this clumsy elephant has repeatedly acted as light as a swallow in the film, so he fell again and again on the screen. As a result, the unnamed city hiding in the dust on the little flower on his nose will cause a major earthquake along with his tossing, and the mayor of the unnamed city has also become the joke of the film in this shock. That unconscious arm tossing about can make you laugh more than the elephant "Holden" nose.

If you are not particularly picky about the technology, "Holden and the Anonymous" is a film that can continuously surprise you in the development of the plot. Even if the film is a bit overly hypocritical at the end, it is better than "Battlefield Flying Pigeon". I know that the ending movie is much more interesting after watching the beginning. What's more, there are the monkeys that you will remember in the film and the old vultures. We don't expect "Holden and Anonymous" to compete head-to-head with Pixar and DreamWorks this year's main show, but we can't deny that this is an excellent cartoon. The embarrassment of "Horton and Anonymous" is that it has too many stars such as "Ice Age". In front of "Robot Walli" and "Kung Fu Panda", "Horton and Anonymous" is destined to be the old man in 2008. Third, this is just like a helpless embarrassment, just like the "old third" of Lantian Studio for many years.
