Favorite Rome

Movies in the 1950s were still black-and-white pixels, and Chinese dubbing and subtitles were difficult to match, and the sound that came out was mixed with some noise. But the whole movie is very smooth, even if there is no language in the plot, such as at the police station, even if there is no line, the audience can still understand the plot.

Speaking of Audrey Hepburn, how many people use the word goddess, beauty and temperament coexist, thinking of her is to think of a series of words of praise. And Princess Anne, who she plays, is indeed so kind and simple, innocent and cute.

I admire Hepburn before I watched this long-standing, classic old film. "Roman Holiday" created Hepburn, and Hepburn also created "Roman Holiday." It is praised as a classic not only because of Hepburn's perfect interpretation, but also because of the beautiful love that happened in this beautiful Rome.

A princess who is bound by the rules, escapes from the beautiful castle, and meets the romantic and suave reporter Joe in the streets of Rome late at night. They concealed their identities from each other, although Joe learned the true identity of the princess by accident, and under the premise of deceit, took the princess on the streets of Rome for a day. Love was born under deceit and concealment. The princess finally gave up love for the country and responsibility and returned to her world. I didn't like the male lead at first, I thought this love was a ridiculous scam. Later I discovered that language can be a lie, but happiness and love are not deceiving.

The reporter asked the princess which one of the cities she visited the most. The original manuscript should be "each has its own merits", but the princess finally said that "I love Rome the most, unforgettable". Yes, she loves Rome, loves freedom, loves this city, and loves Joe in this city.

In the final farewell, the princess looked at Joe affectionately, and she couldn't say anything under the gaze of the crowd.

The beautiful Hepburn, the elegant Hepburn, the hardworking Hepburn, the excellent Hepburn, the pompous Hepburn, and the outstanding Hepburn are all the best Hepburn.

A classic, no Annie after Hepburn, never to be surpassed.

When I was young, I didn't feel it, but when I read it in middle age, I found this story very moving. Most of the plot is indeed cliché, but the sublimation of the ending scene does bring the film to a level worthy of a screen classic. In my opinion this is not (or mainly not) a coming-of-age story about love or regretful beauty, but about finding a better side of yourself. At first, the princess only regarded her responsibilities as a shackle, until she met the male protagonist 'selfless' who sacrificed to achieve her desire, and gradually felt guilty for abandoning the nation. Finally, since returning to her was a personal choice, she knew the meaning and meaning of it. Take responsibility more confidently at the price. At the beginning, the male protagonist only regards the princess as a means of getting reward. In getting along with the princess, he is ashamed of cheating the trust of the other party because of the goodwill and sincerity of the princess. He also makes a more legitimate choice so that he can stand upright and face the princess when they meet again. Because both of them want to preserve the beauty of their experiences, in the end, they both try to be the better version of themselves that the other sees in order to fulfill the other's imagination. Even if it starts with an illusory ideal, what kind of world you see will be what kind of world it will be fulfilled

Roman Holiday quotes

  • Reporter: And what, in the opinion of Your Highness, is the outlook for friendship among nations?

Princess Ann: I have every faith in it... as I have faith in relations between people.

Joe Bradley: May I say, speaking for my own... press service: we believe Your Highness's faith will not be unjustified.

Princess Ann: I am so glad to hear you say it.

Another reporter: Which of the cities visited did Your Highness enjoy the most?

General Provno: [prompting] Each, in its own way...

Princess Ann: Each, in its own way, was unforgettable. It would be difficult to - Rome! By all means, Rome. I will cherish my visit here in memory as long as I live.

  • [the General mentions Princess Ann's duty]

Princess Ann: Your Excellency, I trust you will not find it necessary to use that word again. Were I not completely aware of my duty to my family and to my country, I would not have come back tonight... or indeed ever again!
