Dig into the true story behind An Education

The film was made well enough. Although everything after the truth was revealed seemed too easy and logical. However, movies are not life, real life is much more exciting than movies.

I dug a little bit into the story of the original author Lynn Barber and found that it was 100 times more exciting than the one told in the movie.

Introduce the background. This is the true story of Lynn Barber himself. She was a 16-year-old beautiful female student who had studied at Grammar School in the suburbs of London, England (actually Surrey). The story between her and the old man, the old man's profession, the old man's friends (Danny and Helen), the old man has a wife, and the old man's last name (Goldman) are all true.

However, from Lynn Barber’s own memories, there are some facts that are not written in the film: She does not love him, she has never loved him, what she loves is the education he brought him: fine restaurants, art, antiques , Collectibles, classical music. To a certain extent, she used her time, youth, and chastity in exchange for her vision. She can be his girlfriend coldly, enjoy the life he brings to her, and remain indifferent to his suspicious background until he loves her enough to propose to her; at the same time, reading her books and taking her exams, Get a good grade that can easily enter Oxford.

In the version she wrote to The Guardian, there are two sentences worth quoting:

On the evening after my last A-level, Simon took me out to dinner and proposed. I had wanted him to propose, as proof of my power, but I had absolutely no intention of accepting because of course I was going to Oxford.

("After my last A-level exam, Simon took me out for dinner and asked me to marry me. I had hoped that he would propose to me to prove my means and strength, but I did not accept his proposal at all. Intention, because I should go to Oxford.”) After

it was discovered:

From my bedroom window, I saw Simon sitting in the Bristol outside with his shoulders shaking. Then my father strode down the front path and kicked the car as hard as he could, and Simon drove away. I found the sight of my father kicking the car hilarious and wanted to shout out of the window, "Scratch it, Dad! Scratch the bodywork-that'll really upset him!'

(from Looking through the window of my bedroom, Simon was sitting in his Bristol with trembling shoulders. Then my father walked out from the front door and kicked his car with all his strength. Simon drove away. I think my father kicked his car. It's so funny, I want to shout out the window, "Dad, scratched his car! Scratched the body! That would make him very annoyed!) What

is not mentioned in the movie is that after she entered Oxford, the old man please The college mother passed a note to her to invite her to dinner. Then, she went to Merton (the best college in Oxford) to find her boyfriend, and the two went to a dinner together. Wow, it's wonderful!

What if the movie shoots the real Lynn Barber...?

I read the version she wrote for The Guardian, which was written after the film was made. The original text is here:

The original version of this story was a short story written by Barber for Granta Magazine (a British literary magazine). Later, she expanded it into a book, which was published in 2009. When Nick Hornby wrote the script for the movie, he only followed Granta's short story.

Lynn Barber's identity is a journalist. The media he has worked with (all print media) include Vanity Fair, The Sunday Times, The Daily Telegraph, and The Observer. Won some awards and was once a judge of the Turner Prize. Regarding her excellent interviewing ability, there is this article on wikipedia:

Best known for her interviews, she was once quoted by Will Self as describing her method as "start[ing] ... from a position of really disliking people, and then compel [ling] them to win you over."

(Will Self commented on her interview style: "At first, it was conducted from a perspective that disgusts the interviewee very much. This will inspire the interviewee to work hard to win a good impression.")

LOL. She turned out to be such a person.

Finally, I will briefly talk about this movie. Fiction belongs to fiction, in fact, I still like its romantic color. Jenny is a beloved character after all, and I especially like watching her talk to all kinds of people. However, this should be credited to the playwright. Playwright Nick Hornby is from Jesus College in Cambridge. Maybe I should read High Fidelity again.

Those place names in the movie make me feel familiar/friendly. St John's Smith Square is a place where classical concerts are often held. Lisa Hannigan also performed there; Helen's beautiful clothes were bought in "somewhere in Chelsea", which is near the Royal Court Theatre. Ben Whishaw ate it when he played Cock. A place for lunch and dinner;

actors and actresses. Began to gossip actors. The film of the first heroine has not been seen before, so omit it.

Olivia Williams is again the character of a calm and kind-hearted woman. Other similar roles can be seen in "Sixth Sense" (Bruce Willis and his wife), BBC version of Emma (Jane Fairfax), Heart of Me (Paul Bettany and Helena Bonham-Carter have an extramarital affair, she plays Bonham-Carter's sister, Bettany Wife).

Emma Thompson is the character of a majestic and ruthless old woman. (After the storm in the hometown?)

Uncle Alfred Molina, why is it difficult for me to connect you on the screen with you who are cheerfully hugging your son and listening to the bald head of the iPod? Thank you so much for signing me, otherwise it seems like I've seen it for nothing (Baofei). Looking forward to The Tempest!

Cara Seymour is very old. Once an elegant and slender violinist in Adaptation, how come you are now playing a maternal role?

The sight of Matthew Beard and the heroine in the rehearsal room was a huge surprise for me (to the extent of seeing Hans Matheson in Sherlock Holmes). Since the last time I saw And When Did You Last See Your Father, I have been very, very optimistic about this child. The facial features are so beautiful, the skin is tender enough to pinch water, and the acting skills are not bad. He is not as famous as Nicholas Hoult, I don't think it makes sense.

The gentle honey between the first actor's brows and eyes seems a bit like Mr. Darcy in love.

above.

An Education quotes

  • Jenny: [Reading from envelopes she found in David's car] Mr. and Mrs. David Goldman. Mr. and Mrs. David Goldman. Mr. and Mrs. David- you're married!

    David: Legally yes, but...

Jenny: When were you going to tell me?

David: Soon, it just never seemed like the right time. You seemed so happy, and I was happy...

Jenny: You were living with your wife all this time, around the corner! Byron Avenue. It's no wonder we kept bumping into each other, is it? What number?

David: 34. Don't be like this, come on.

Jenny: I have nothing. I didn't take my exams. I... I left school. Where's it all gone now?

  • Jack: We have to have this out. Well, if you won't do it, I will. I'm still your father.

Jenny: You're my father again now, are you? And what were you when you encouraged me to throw my life away? Silly schoolgirls are always getting seduced by glamorous older men, but what about you two?
